  The World's Fastest Electric Car
AC Propulsion's tzero roadster is a reason to not give up on the electric vehicle.
AC Propulsion had made the tzero with lead-acid batteries since 1997, but this year released a revamped version with the kind of lithium-ion batteries used in laptop computers.
But even if AC Propulsion claims the vehicle has efficiency equivalent to 70 mpg (and zero emissions), the tzero is, to a certain extent, an exercise in automotive fantasy.

BOARD MEETING DATE: June 15, 2001 AGENDA NO. 5
AC Propulsion, Inc. is a California corporation located in San Dimas that designs, develops, and manufactures electric vehicle propulsion systems and builds vehicle prototypes.
AC Propulsion sells products and conducts R and D programs for companies and research groups around the world in areas such as electric and hybrid electric vehicle development, battery testing, and hybrid power unit development.
AC Propulsion will build a grid-connected hybrid electric vehicle that will demonstrate the benefits and capabilities of significant battery-only range, bi-directional grid interface, clean onboard power generation capacity used as distributed generation, and remote control of onboard power capacity via wireless communication.

Electric vehicle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For especially large electric vehicles, namely submarines and aircraft carriers, the chemical energy of the diesel-electric can be replaced by a nuclear reactor.
The nuclear reactor usually provides heat, which drives a steam turbine, which drives a generator, which is then fed to the propulsion.
The use of fuel cells instead of internal combustion engines can create propulsion systems that are nearly emissions-free (regarding local emissions).

MUKHERJEE and SAMANTA: Ambulatory performance of hand-rim and arm-crank propulsion   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The FCS of the AC propelled device is remarkably higher than the HR system, and the magnitude of the physiological variables of the AC propulsion system was significantly lower (p<0.001) in relation to the HR propulsion system, as revealed from the results of t test for two sample means at a significance level p=0.001.
It can be inferred from the result that the AC propulsion system could be used for long distance rides with a higher speed required for outdoor ambulation and that the HR propulsion system is suitable only for indoor use, because of its excellent maneuverability where short duration low velocity ambulation is required.
During MWC propulsion, the forward leaning of the trunk during each push stroke is energy wasteful and also results in increase of pressure on caster wheel and rolling resistance which, in turn, increases energy demands (28).
