		The DAA is controlled via AC97 interface, this is merely a synchronous TDM with single control frame, others for data.
		The AC97 chip does not care what commands does it sends/what responses receive from the DAA that is connected to the line.
		The VIA AC97 controller like intel AC97 controller in the southbridge has some internal registers that are used to feed the data to the AC97 control frame.

		It also seems that the function of 2 of the AC97 registers (36h and 38h) on these cards, are swapped from what they are used for on other cards (their descriptions also appear to be swapped in the STAC9758 datasheet (which mysteriously seems to no longer be available from the Sigmatel website)).
		AC97 Register 36h should be Center/LFE Volume and AC97 Register 38h should be Surround Volume.
		Make sure to reset your ac97 and DSP settings to be 100% sure the driver initializes your card correctly (uninstall kX completely, clear driver's registry key and do a cold reboot for the card to clear any existing ac97 registers before installing 3538i).
