  News Release: Continental Airlines to Acquire Stake in Colombian Airline Aces
ACES began service as a regional airline in 1972 and now offers 190 daily departures to 30 Colombian cities, including Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Armenia and Pereira.
ACES also serves Miami from both Bogota and Medellin, and offers further international service to Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Panama City, Panama.
Earlier this year, ACES earned the "Civil Aviation Merit Gold Cross," the highest award given by the Colombian government to an airline operating in the country.

There is no doubt that ACES is making it much better than its partner AVIANCA.
I chose Aces Colombia on my flight from Caracas to Miami via Bogota and I have to say that the flight was a disgrace.
My Wife and I fly ACES Airlines to Colombia from Miami, and I have found the service to be better than many European or even North American airlines.

If Avianca and Aces could not make it on the route what makes you think either one of the Dominican carriers can survive in that route and that's not counting the through traffic which the Colombian carriers had which the Dominicans won't.
Because Aces had financial problems not with traffic,thats why i think a dominican carrier could do a good job on that route.

Avianca, Colombia's flagship airline, saidfollowing a shareholders' meeting that up to $45 million would be raised through a previously announced preferential share issues, while the rest of the capital would come from loans.

In a joint statement the shareholders said that they were not able to put the airline into bankruptcy under Colombian law as most of its debtors were in other countries.
Since Avianca, which is the country's flag carrier, ACES and the SAM airline came together under Alianza Summa 18 months ago, Avianca itself has filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States.

I had once thought that I would be using USAir, TWA, Avianca, Aces, and TACA equally when flying as an alternative to OnePass, when finding less expensive fares, and when flying within Colombia and to other parts of South America.
That has turned out to not be the case.
I am currently posted in Japan, but if I ever end up in Latin America, you can bet that GlobalPass would be my #1 FF plan.
