  Linux And Music
The AGNULA project is creating what is possibly the first computer system tailored specifically for musicians — and it's all based around the Linux operating system.
The AGNULA project, the name of which is an acronym for A GNU/Linux Audio Distribution, has been created to design and build aversion of Linux specifically for professional musicians and recording engineers.
AGNULA is a consortium of several European universities, the Red Hat Linux company and the Free Software Foundation.

Lately, people have uploaded on AGNULA Libre Music some works which very plausibly they do not have the right of reproduction and distribution on.
As AGNULA Libre Music is currently a 99% volunteer effort, you will understand we do not really want to spend our time discussing with lawyers - something which we have been doing already, albeit without too much notice on our mailing lists - or getting after potential copyright infringements.
We are not making any money out of AGNULA Libre Music (if any, we are losing it in terms of time we dedicate to this service which we could profitably use somewhere else) and to be honest, it is saddening to see the original goals of this platform being distorted this way.

Ubuntu/DeMudi as an Audio Workstation? - Ubuntu Forums
AGNULA's audio driver system is the latest package from ALSA (the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture), a project designed to replace the ageing OSS/Free kernel sound driver modules.
AGNULA's middle tier software includes the various ALSA utilities (such as the alsamixer and aconnect programs) and the JACK audio connection kit, a low-latency sound server for a network of JACK-aware clients.
This is AGNULA: an environment rich in powerful applications for the creation, modification, storage, transmission, recording and playback of sound and music, an environment built entirely from truly free software and freely available for composers, musicians, and everyone everywhere.

I had to massage part of the X configuration, but the AGNULA developers were most helpful and patient with me. Once the base system was installed the next step was to go on-line and issue these simple commands : apt-get update apt-get install demudi-all After that stage completed itself I was ready to go.

The AGNULA project aims to contribute to the community effort in the development and diffusion of Libre Software by providing the first Libre Software platform devoted to professional and consumer audio applications and development.
AGNULA distributions have the following features: easy to use (auto-installing, with auto-configuration, plug-and-play, etc...), full-featured GNU/Linux system (completely configurable and customizable, reliable and secure, strongly linked to networking the Internet, easy to upgrade, etc...).

FSF Europe - Projects - AGNULA: A GNU/Linux Audio distribution - bringing freedom into multimedia
Anyone is welcome to provide distributions, products or services based upon and under the designation AGNULA, provided you comply with the rules of the AGNULA trademark license.
AGNULA managed to be accepted as European Commission project IST-2001-34879 and was funded from April 1st, 2002 until March 31st, 2004.
One seminal role of the FSF Europe inside the AGNULA EU project was to take care of the legal issues, decide upon acceptable licensing policies and care about legal maintainability.

The AGNULA trademark license is public, so you can read it for yourself.
When you see a distribution or product bearing the "AGNULA" name or logo, you can be sure that it is entirely Free Software and will therefore not make you dependent by introducing some non-Free Software through the back-door.
In essence, the AGNULA trademark license aims to establish a brand for Free Software audio and multimedia distributions that will allow users to make a choice for freedom.

Since AGNULA will cost very little to try out, except perhaps in the time taken to learn about the software, there's not much to lose.
AGNULA doesn't need our permission and we don't get any explicit kickback apart from a little publicity.
