  AIA - Awards - Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement
The AIA Gold Medal Award Committee invites nominations for the award to be presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting.
The recipient of the award will be presented with the medal and a citation documenting his or her outstanding achievements and a symposium will be held in his or her honor at the Annual Meeting at which the award is presented.
The Gold Medal Committee and the Program Committee for the Annual Meeting request that nomination packets include suggestions for potential organizers and/or participants for a symposium to be held at the Annual Meeting in honor of the successful nominee.

Washington, D.C., December 8, 2005 — The Board of Directors of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is pleased to announce that architect Antoine Predock, FAIA, is the recipient of the 2006 AIA Gold Medal.
The AIA Gold Medal, given annually, is the highest honor the AIA confers on an architect.
Predock is the 62nd AIA Gold Medalist, joining the ranks of such visionaries as Thomas Jefferson (1993), Frank Lloyd Wright (1949), Louis Sullivan (1944), LeCorbusier (1961), Louis Kahn (1971), I.M. Pei (1979), Cesar Pelli (1995) and last year’s recipient, Santiago Calatrava.

The inability of the AIA to honor one its' own with a Gold Medal is an embarrassment not only to the organization but to the industry as a whole.
One of the people at the table, who happened to be involved with the AIA on a national level, began to justify the reasoning behind the recent decision not to award a medal.
This seems to be a case of the AIA shooting itself in the foot.

Currently AIA's bylaws state that the board may have a maximum of 34 directors, meaning it might be necessary to realign regions.
Maybe we should award the AIA Gold Medal to architects of leading green projects and the firm award to firms contributing to the survival of earth.
The theme for the meeting 7 and 8 November at the University of Illinois is "Sustainability." (Seems as though AIA National Component and AIA Illinois are on pursuing the same priorities.) The feature keynote speaker is Rafael Pelli, AIA of Caesar Pelli and Associates.

Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology David Stronach is the 2004 recipient of the Archaeological Institute of America's Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement.

The 2006 AIA Firm Award was presented to Moore Ruble Yudell, a firm that began 28 years ago as a spirited collaboration among partners and associates.
