		CHENNAI: The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu continued to hold its sway over the electorate, with both its nominees romping home with comfortable leads at Vaniyambadi and Acharapakkam, where by-polls to the state Assembly were held on May 31.
		The AIADMK wrested the seat from the Indian National League and won the seat after a gap of 22 years.
		AIADMK General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha thanked the voters of both constituencies for reposing faith in her party.

	Trouble in the AIADMK
		The latest moves in the AIADMK against the Sasikala family go back to May 1996 when the party was trounced by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
		The AIADMK recovered ground in the February 1998 Lok Sabha elections and became a partner in the coalition government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, only to pull it down soon afterwards.
