  MILAVIA Aircraft - AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo
Taiwan's AIDC has developed an upgraded variant, designated F-CK-1C/D. The first F-CK-1C single-seat prototype was flown in October 2006, followed by the first F-CK-1D two-seater prototype in early 2007.
Both aircraft were demonstrated at a ceremony at the AIDC facility at Taichung on March 27, 2007.
AIDC hopes to upgrade half of the existing fleet, and also produce new aircraft for the RoCAF.

The TFE1042 is an afterburning derivative of the TFE731 turbofan, which is used on a variety of business jets and jet trainers, and it is believed that this engine was partly selected on the basis that its procurement wouldn't raise a "red flag" to the mainland Chinese.
The Ching Kuo has tricycle landing gear of clearly lighter construction than that of the F-16, as the Taiwanese fighter is not meant to operate from rough airstrips and is not intended to carry as heavy an offensive warload.

AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AIDC officially began the IDF development project in 1982 following the ROCAF's failure to purchase new fighters from the United States as a result of PRC diplomatic pressure.
AIDC also suggested upgrading TFE-1042-7 to 8000 lb thrust as twin engine solution, in order to compete with GE However, JAS39 project decided to continue with single engine F404, and Piaggio asked to participate at a later date due to financial reasons.
According to media, the AIDC IDF trainer concept apparently involved the removal of fire control radar and combat systems with the retention of flight control, so that the IDF could be used as a lead-in fighter trainer (LIFT).
