Since its inception in 1985 the NSW HIV/AIDS Information Line receives an average of 100 calls per day from which statistics are gathered about the caller's sex, location, sexuality, transmission issues, risk behaviour, nature of enquiry, and referral/action taken.
These statistics can be used to assess areas of HIV education deficit and response to public education campaigns.

THREE leading AIDS organisations have angered gay rights advocates by starting a joint campaign in support of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service's restrictions on gay blood donors.
The campaign, by the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine, the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations and the AIDS Council of NSW, is in response to a discrimination claim before the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commission by Launceston gay man Michael Cain.
In advertisements in publications catering mainly to gay and lesbian readers, the organisations say that the Red Cross's policy of turning away potential donors who have had male-to-male sex in the past 12 months is necessary to ensure "uncompromised blood supplies".
