 Rio
The album went gold on March 1, 1983, and platinum on April 26.
Rio was recorded in spring of 1982 at Air Studios in London, with producer and engineer Colin Thurston, on the Capitol/EMI label.
On October 2, Carnival became the first EP ever to make an appearance on the US charts, although it only sat at #98 for one week.

George was 29 at the time and the youngest head of a label.
•A memo from Olympic Studios charged EMI for: Four track recording £23 per hour + Copying £3 per hour + 3 reels of 1/2 " tape £10 per reel + 1/2 reel of 1/4 " tape £4.5s per reel.
Martin received a letter from EMI concerning his work on Strawberry Fields in Nov '66: We havepleasure in enclosing herewith a cheque for £36.0.0.

Air Studios, a recording studio operated by George Martin, used to be on the island, and performers like the Rolling Stones, Sting and Elton John traveled there to record.
After Hurricane Hugo, however, the studios were closed.
Martin organized a fundraiser (Music for Montserrat) for the island in 1997, which included native band Arrow, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Buffett, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Sting and Elton John.
