  ALSEP - Wikipedia

ALSEP (Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package) was the array of connected scientific instruments left behind on the lunar surface by each Apollo expedition.
ALSEP Program Manager, W. O'Bryant, said: "I felt they were serious enough to warrant giving you my views in regard to the importance of having the ALSEP with its planned complement of instruments aboard the first Apollo lunar landing mission.
ALSEP left on the moon in November 1969 was continuing to transmit satisfactory data.

ALSEP was a collection of geophysical instruments designed to continue to monitor the environment of each Apollo landing site for a period of at least a year after the astronauts had departed.
The SIDE which was part of the ALSEPs on the Apollo 12, 14, and 15 missions had sensors which were directional, pointing in the ecliptic plane 15 degrees from the lunar local meridian.
Only used on Apollo 17 ALSEP, the LSG’s major goal was to confirm the existence of gravity waves as predicted by Einstein; to measure the response of the Moon to the Earth’s tidal pull; and to detect free lunar oscillations in periods of 15 minutes or longer.

A-15 and 16 reported no particular problems deploying ALSEP (but see A-16 HFE.) Some cords which were to release pins on the central station of A-15 broke and the pins had to be released by hand.
During A-14 EVA 2, the crew was able to adjust the alignment of the central station antenna in an effort to strengthen the signal received at Earth.
The fuel capsules for these were kept in a separate cask for safety (they were at 500deg C and radioactive) until the astronaut on the surface removed it and placed it into the thermocouple assembly with the fuel transfer tool.

The Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package, or ALSEP, was a set of connected scientific instruments left on the Moon The Moon is the only natural satellite of Earth.
ALSEP was powered by Radioisotope thermoelectric generatorsA radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) is a simple electrical generator which obtains its power from radioactive decay.
In such a device, the heat released by the decay of a suitable radioactive material is converted into electricity using an array of thermocouples.

During the first moonwalk the astronauts deployed the ALSEP and drove the LRV to Flag Crater.

The goal of the project is to model and simulate the work practices of the Apollo astronauts, while deploying the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) on the moon.
Project Compendium, in combination with the QuestMap software tool, allows the work practice analyst to use different multimedia data records (e.g., communication transcriptions, mission photographs, and video) as the primary data for the analysis of the domain, and the design of the multi-agent simulation program.
