Active-duty squadrons abandoned the Mauler in 1950, and it lasted through 1953 in reserve units.
Unlike previous aircraft, this was to be a single-seater; no separate bombardier or radio operator was deemed necessary, and the plane was intended to be as fast as fighters and thus not need a rear gunner.
In 1950 the decision was made to use the Mauler only from dry land, and later that year all but reserve units abandoned the type.

I had never thought to see the Mauler in a regular production kit and so have been hoarding an Esoteric vacuform kit for the day that I would build the aircraft.
It is obvious that SIGA plans on several Maulers as there are different prop spinners and blades that are not used on this particular kit.

Furthermore, the diameter of the smaller, rear half of the wheel well is actually too small to accommodate the main wheel.

Photoetch brass and resin details were just coming onto the market, and most of the modelers I knew back then looked down on them as the easy way out, preferring to do it the old fashioned way with plastic rod and card stock.
Step forward ten years, and I am immediately struck by the huge variety in front of my eyes.
With resin, we are seeing such kits as the X-3 (finally!) and AM-1 Mauler, kits that no injection molded company would ever pick up because they could never recoup the cost of making the molds.

It was felt that one aircraft could be designed that would able to fill both of these roles and more, and that reducing the crew to a single pilot would result in weight savings and speed increases, both factors that would enable the aircraft to carry more ordinance more effectively.
Martin AM-1 Mauler) also attempted to fill the same design spec, the Skyraider was definitely the more successful of the two.
However, it was not until the closing months of World War II that the prototype was flown for the first time, on March 18 1945.

Where I am at a loss is how to get the information on exact shapes and profiles for bulkheads, wing ribs, canopy shape, etc. Designers like Don Smith and Nick Ziroli must have gotten detail drawings to base their plans from.
for the Martin Mauler, several years back I built one from a set of plans out of RCM it was for a.60-.90 size and was pretty scale and detailed.

Modern critics appear more and more inclined to believe that the data furnished by the Prophet lead to the admission of a still lower date, namely "the moment between the actual invasion of Assyria by a hostile force and the commencement of the attack on its capital" (Kennedy).
