The ARA Veinticinco de Mayo (V-2) was an aircraft carrier in the Armada Republica Argentina from 1969 to 1999.
After Independencia was decommissioned in 1970, the Veinticinco de Mayo was the sole remaining carrier in the Argentine fleet and could carry up to 24 aircraft.
During the Falklands War, the Veinticinco de Mayo was deployed in a task force north of the Falkland Islands, with the ARA General Belgrano to the south.

She was sold on October 15th 1968 to Argentina and after a refit at Rotterdam, commissioned on March 12th 1969 as ARA Veinticinco de Mayo.
Between 1980 and 1981 she underwent a major refit in preparation for the arrival of new Dassault Super Etendards: her flight deck was strengthened, space was added for more aircraft.
She commissioned at Puerto Belgrano on January 26th 1959 as ARA Independencia.

In 1948, she was used for flexible-deck trials and, in 1954, upgraded with a partial angled deck.
These, however, never deployed aboard the ARA Independencia (except during their delivery voyage, on which the Panthers and Cougars were embarked for transport from the USA to Argentina) then the ship proved unsuitable for operating them: Argentinean Panthers did only very few (perhaps only one) landing on board for test purposes.
The carrier ARA Independencia appears not to have deployed in the area: the ship was already in poor condition after years of heavy service.

The planes were assigned to the 1a Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Ataque as part of the 2a Escuadra Aeronaval based at BAN Commandante Espora in Puerto Belgrano.
They were strictly land-based aircraft, since the catapult of the ARA *Independencia* light carrier was not considered to be powerful enough to launch the F9F-2.
The 1a Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Ataque was later transferred to BAN Punta del Indio.

The only foreign buyer of the Panther was the Argentine Navy, who bought 24 ex-USN aircraft in 1958.
The catapults on the then only Argentine carrier, ARA Independencia (V-1), were considered not powerful enough to launch the F9F, so the aircraft were based on land.
They were involved in the general movilization during the 1965 border clash between Argentina and Chile but no combat happened.

ALthough the Colossus class carrier (ARA [V-1] Independencia) could nopt carry it (due to her HYD CAT), the grummans rendered valiable service from shore bases.
