ARISS recruits amateur radio operators from around the world to volunteer with their local schools.
The individual classrooms submit an application to the ARISS program to hold an approximate 8-10 minute interview with an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS).

SuitSat is a project sponsored by ARISS (Amateur Radio on the ISS) an international working group of volunteers from national amateur radio organisations.

Thanks to Dieter KX4Y for helping us with the echolink connections and special thanks to Charlie AJ9N, the ARISS mentor who helped the NGARC make this 2nd ISS contact also a success.
They completed the ARISS paperwork in 2002 and the NGARC had said we would provide any help the school needed.

Serving as the Earth station for the event was the Radio Society of Great Britain's (RSGB) mobile ham station GB4FUN, controlled by Carlos Eavis, G0AKI, and operated by AMSAT UK's Howard Long, G6LVB.
The contact marked the first ARISS school group QSO for a school in Wales and the last for Phillips during his current ISS duty tour.

 ARISS Contact at Hawthorne Brook School
November 29 2005 was the culmination of two months of preparation for an ARISS contact between the International Space Station and Hawthorne Brook Middle School in Townsend.
Two month’s earlier we had been contacted to provide radio communications for the event by Steven Best VE9SRB who was involved in the original application and Marilyn Richardson (the teacher).
It took a while to pack all the equipment and take down the antennas but considering it took two days to set up the two hours to take down was not bad.

Amateurs from the ISS partner countries, in the USA, Russia, Japan, Europe and Canada, have set up the ARISS program, a program who's mission is to foster amateur radio communications between the astronauts and cosmonauts who reside on the station.
