On the Entomology of the Aru Islands, by Alfred Russel Wallace
Many fine things have thus been made known to entomologists, although the total number of species collected is very small; and it may, perhaps, be considered as one of the least known and most promising regions that remain, now that the most remote parts of the earth are ransacked by enterprising collectors.
I believe, therefore, that the insects of Aru and New Guinea are as closely related as those of Great Britain and the Continent of Europe.
I guess from the moment I heard the word Aru in January 2000, I said to myself, "what is that?" and I didn't think about it again.
Kai was 75 miles to the west of the Aru group, an accessible distance and the charter fee was such that we didn't have to rob too many banks to manage it.
I had read all the books and literature about the Aru group by this stage and I was hanging in there on most of the discussion points, well knowing however I was only going there for 2 things: mud crabs and barramundi.
Aru regency administration secretary GAA Gainau said here over the weekend that part of Aru regency, especially South Aru, is very near to Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory, and mutually beneficial cooperation is therefore quite feasible like a sister-city cooperation.
He said as a flight by small aircraft from Dobo, capital of Aru regeny, to Darwin takes only one hour and 20 minutes, a cooperation between the two regions would be quite feasible.
A mutually beneficial cooperation would also be very useful in the prevention of poaching in the Aru regency waters, and stealing of timber and farm produce.

The Judicial Committee consisting of Mr J.N. Gleeson QC, Mr P.R. Garling SC and Dr J. Steinweg FACSP, was appointed by the ARU in accordance with clause 22 of the Anti-Doping By-Law of the ARU.
Consequent upon notification to the ARU on 12 May 2006 of the preliminary Adverse Analytical Finding for the presence of that Metabolite of cocaine, Sailor was provisionally suspended by the ARU in accordance with the By-Law.
The ARU submitted that the Puerta's case was inapplicable and able to be distinguished, that the penalty was a mandatory one and that the proper period for disqualification for Sailor was 2 years.
ARU officers can then retrieve information on ARU calls at computer workstations and begin calling complainants to take reports.
The ARU officers are not limited to taking calls in their respective districts and the workload is shared region wide.
ARU officers may also cooperate with district staff in the management of walk-in complainants at the front desks and with many daily operational needs, such as front desk relief or cell relief.
The Atherosclerosis Research Unit (ARU) serves as the center of the Keck School's broad research efforts into the dynamics of atherosclerosis, the thickening and narrowing of the arteries that significantly increases an individual's risk of heart attack and stroke.
ARU researchers were among the first to provide evidence that lowering blood cholesterol can unclog arteries narrowed by atherosclerosis.
ARU work has also revealed that taking estrogen appears to reverse thickening in the arteries of healthy, postmenopausal women.
High Performance Unit director Pat Wilson has admitted the ARU hadn't been helped by Giteau's windfall but highlighted that much of his contract, understood to be two-thirds, came from third-party sweeteners which lured him to the Western Force.
But Jones, who has been a constant critic of the ARU since being axed as Test coach 13 months ago, said it was naive to think Giteau's salary wouldn't increase the financial expectations of his teammates.
Jones, who called for the ARU to let go of Mat Rogers when he first wanted to return to league, said it would now be difficult to lower their offer to Tuqiri, who appears out of reach to NRL clubs operating within the confines of a salary cap.
But the ARU's refusal to offer a top-up contract for Schifcofske is set to end any chance the Reds had of securing the Raider.
Earlier, Jones hinted at ARU favouritism after fellow Super 14 club Western Force last week signed Roosters centre Ryan Cross to a contract which was topped up by the ARU.
The ARU hit back, however, with chief operating officer Rob Clarke last night declaring it would have been an "irresponsible" decision to invest funds in a "risky proposition".
The ARU Sports Injury and Liability Insurance Scheme provides a basic level of insurance for players, members and officials associated with club rugby.
All clubs affiliated with the ARU and/or the various State Unions and their affiliated unions are automatically covered under the plan from March 1, for a period of 12 months.
Please note that it is the club's responsibility to ensure the original ARU membership forms are stored for ten (10) years.
