Australian Light Armoured Vehicle ASLAV-25 Review by Neil Stokes (Cutting Edge Australia 1/35)
The ASLAV was the result of a 1990 evaluation of the U.S. Marine Corps’ LAV-25 Piranha, some 15 of which were purchased by the Australian Defense Force for the evaluation.
Note also that you must omit the whip aerial (part B27 in the Trumpeter kit) and remove its mounting bracket from the upper hull since the ASLAV aerials are mounted on the turret.
Photographs of ASLAVs in Iraq show the spare wheel carried on the hull, but earlier photographs of vehicles in Australia and in service with INTERFET in Timor show the spare wheel carried on a swinging bracket on the rear hull.

What irritates cavalry officers and troopers most of all is the misconception that the ASLAV squadrons, and indeed cavalry regiments in general, confine their operations to the armed reconnaissance role, but this is only one of many combat-related which the modern cavalry can perform.
While there are a number of small changes to the ASLAV hull, such as strengthening the suspension and improving maintenance utility the big difference is in the turret, which now houses a fully integrated and computerised fire control system comparable with that of a new-generation main battle tank.
This increased accuracy and range is particularly important in peace enforcing operations: increasing lethality of the ASLAV and reducing the risk of collateral loss of life and damage.
