BCT IDE - IAV Family of Vehicles - ATGM
The ATGM is based on the ICV platform due to the close parallels of operational requirements and battlefield capabilities between the two systems.
The ATGM is an organic vehicle to the ICV maneuver formation and helps maximize commonality of the platform while simultaneously reducing the maintenance footprint and variety of logistics support.
The brigade commander will utilize the brigade’s separate antitank company, armed with these ATGM MAVs, to shape the battlefield, to reinforce the brigade’s infantry battalions, to serve as a member of the brigade reserve, to reinforce the brigade reconnaissance squadron in the counter-reconnaissance fight, and to counterattack the enemy’s operations.

Chinese HJ-8 ATGM on a Chinese armoured vehicle.
ATGMs range in size from shoulder-launched weapons which can be transported by a single soldier, to larger tripod mounted weapons which require a squad or team to transport and fire, to vehicle and aircraft mounted missile systems.
The introduction of smaller, man-portable ATGMs with larger warheads to the modern battlefield has given infantry the ability to defeat even heavily armored main battle tanks at great ranges, usually with the first shot.

ANTITANK MISSILE SYSTEMS   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Initially designed to counter armored targets, ATGM systems have subsequently become an effective means available to an operational commander due to their high precision of fire and warhead power.
The ATGM systems in service with modern armies are the most produced and most widely employed type of high precision weapon.
Third, the new ATGM systems must allow for use in diverse climates and theaters of operations as well as at night, in adverse weather and in the conditions of clutter and hostile jamming.

It was revealed in July 1996 as a follow up on the Kornet laser beam riding ATGM, deveoloped by the KBP (Instrument-Making Design Bureau) in Tula.
Regardless of the choice of the Russian Army, it is certain that the very capable Hrizantema ATGM system will be purchased by many other armies.

The KORNET-E ATGM system is intended to destroy modern and future tanks protected with explosive reactive armour, hardened point targets (i.e., hull-down tanks, pillboxes, fortifications) and small-size targets, as well as structures and troops in the open.
The upgrade of MALYUTKA ATGM is intended to enhance armour penetration capability of the basic model by factor 2, increase its average flight speed, and engage a wider variety of targets.

MilParade.ru | #31 | CONCEPT OF THIRD-GENERATION ATGM SYSTEMS   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The assigned tasks were partially resolved by modernization of second-generation ATGM systems: by outfitting missiles with tandem hollow-charge warheads to penetrate up to 800 mm of explosive reactive armor and installing thermal sights for the conduct of combat actions at night and in adverse conditions.
The advent of the third-generation Germes ATGM system signifies new capabilities in combat employment of antitank weapons, i.e., transfer of fire to the depth of enemy disposition and repulsion of enemy breakthrough at any defense area without changing fire positions.
Since a modern armor grouping of a potential adversary is a complex mobile system, the defeat of such a grouping requires comprehensive engagement of all targets incorporated in the grouping as well as various other targets that operate in the attack zone.

The vehicle was also armed with a 7.62mm machinegun fitted to a ball mount in the glacis, plus another 7.62mm machine gun fitttd to the hull roof for air defense.
In 1978 the Raketenjagdpanzer 2 was upgraded to the Jaguar 1 and armed with HOT ATGMs that had a maximum range of 3,800m; 20 HOT missiles could be carried.

To overcome the shortcomings of modernization, it is necessary to give up old incorporated design approaches and create systems possessing high armor penetration ability and effectiveness in a jamming environment both day and night, extended firing range and high rate of fire, which, however, involves large expenditures for rearmament.
The advent of the third-generation Germes ATGM system signifies new capabilities in combat employment of antitank weapons, i.e., transfer of fire to the depth of enemy disposition and repulsion of enemy breakthrough at any defense area without changing fire positions.

Stryker TOW variant less capable Armor - Find Articles
As I read "The Stryker Company and the Multifunctional Cavalry Platoon," by Colonel Bruce B.G. Clarke, in the July-August issue of ARMOR, I was struck by an anomaly in the current Stryker unit organization.
During World War II, organic infantry antitank guns (37mm and 57mm) were too small to be generally effective, while the towed tank destroyers (76mm) were too cumbersome to be effectively maneuvered.
In the 1960s, the wire-guided ATGM was another breakthrough.

The ATGM complex was designated 2K16, while the vehicle, designated 2P27, mounted three 3M6 Schmel (Bumblebee) wire guided anti-tank missiles on a retractable launcher in an enclosed rear compartment.
The system initially complemented the 2K15 system, which was mounted on an unarmored 2P26 launch vehicle based on the GAZ-69 chassis, though the latter system was eventually replaced by the 2P27, Both systems were intended to supplement conventional antitank guns at Idnger engagement ranges.
The armor-defeating potential of the missile warhead was, however, a significant 380mm, which made the system a considerable threat to contemporary main battle tanks.

Intel Forums: Why to buy ATGM AFVs?
It is important to note that in a meeting engagement that many ATGM carriers outpace all but the most recent generation of MBTs.
ATGM AFV in a hull down position (dug-in, or in a reverse slope, or in rough terrain) offer extremely small targets and are thus very hard to hit, even with other atgm and modern tanks.
However I tend to veer towards small ATGM vehicles, as usually 12+ missiles are not needed for a single vehicle and cost goes up radically with each missile.

Developed in 1962 in KBM under B.I.Shavyrin, this 28.5kg, 1500mm long radio-guided SACLOS ATGM was intended for Obiekt 775 missile tank, which had an OKB-9-designed D-126 low-pressure rifled gun/launcher.
The official start of the ATGW development for T-64 was given by the USSR Council of Ministers Resolution of 20.05.1968, that established a competition between KBM, now headed by S.P.Nyepobedimyi, and KB "Tochmash" under A.E.Nudelman, to develop a 125mm gun-launched missile system.
Ironically, "Gyurza" system, dropping IR guidance in favor of radio, was redesigned to become "Shturm", the Soviet heavy vehicle- and helicopter-mounted ATGM.
