		Ashe’s powerful ground strokes and accurate serves produced singles victories in the United States and Australian Opens and at Wimbledon.
		He was an annual fixture on the U.S. Davis Cup team from 1963 through 1984, first as a player and then as a coach.
		His best season came in 1975, when he upset fellow American Jimmy Connors for the Wimbledon singles title and attained the number-one ranking in the United States.

		Among the ATP players, he was the youngest in the Top 200, at 18 years old, and then showed flashes of brilliance after winning the junior Australian and U.S. Open that same year.
		Consistency was the key in 2001, as Roddick, still a teenager, won ATP titles in Atlanta, Houston and Washington, and finished in the Top 20.
