Later in the year he earned 6th place in the ATP Race and qualified for the first time in the prestigious year-ending Tennis Masters Cup, where he lost in the semi-finals against the then-top tennis player Lleyton Hewitt in three sets.
Federer's tally of 1267 ATP Race points in 2004 is a new record since the Race began in 2000.
The highest number of ranking points ever achieved by Federer for a rolling 52-week was 6980 points in the rankings published by ATP on June 6 and June 13, 2005.

 Arthur Ashe - MSN Encarta
Ashe’s powerful ground strokes and accurate serves produced singles victories in the United States and Australian Opens and at Wimbledon.
He was an annual fixture on the U.S. Davis Cup team from 1963 through 1984, first as a player and then as a coach.
His best season came in 1975, when he upset fellow American Jimmy Connors for the Wimbledon singles title and attained the number-one ranking in the United States.

We submit, however, that there would be no "argument" whatsoever about whom the true winner of that ranking would be if we would but take a little effort to make sense of the exact meaning of this special honor: the greatest tennis player of all time.
As good as Laver was during his relatively short professional run, he was not in any strict sense dominant from 1963 to 1969, the latter year when he won his only pro-fessional grand slam and also the last year he ever won a singles slam title, at age 31.
And the sportswriters and histori-ans persist in considering Kramer King of the Court during this period, when the record clearly shows that Gonzalez was dominating him and everyone else since 1951.

Andy Roddick - Profile, news, pictures and bio
He won 6 world junior singles titles and 7 doubles titles, and by 2003 he had won the U.S. Open and was rated the world's top player.
Among the ATP players, he was the youngest in the Top 200, at 18 years old, and then showed flashes of brilliance after winning the junior Australian and U.S. Open that same year.
Consistency was the key in 2001, as Roddick, still a teenager, won ATP titles in Atlanta, Houston and Washington, and finished in the Top 20.

 Higdon's Net Game
Washington finished the 1995 tennis season ranked near where he finished the previous two years: in the top 30.
Washington's situation is not all that dissimilar from many other players on the tour: He can post some impressive results during the year, but falters come Grand Slam time.
As an amateur between 1912-30, he won 138 of 192 tournaments, losing in 28 finals and compiling an impressive 907-62 match record, a.936 average.
