A3D - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A3D (Aureal 3-Dimensional) is a technology developed by Aureal that delivers sound with a three-dimensional effect through headphones, two or even four speakers.
For all its promise, A3D was entirely displaced by EAX (a technologically inferior system at the time) and DirectSound 3D around the beginning of the year 2001.
A3D differs from the various forms of discrete positional audio in that it only requires two speakers, while surround sound typically requires more than four.

A-3 Skywarrior - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Skywarrior's strategic bombing role faded quickly after 1960, briefly replaced by the A3J Vigilante before the Navy abandoned the concept of carrier-based strategic nuclear weaponry.
The A-3 Skywarrior was the only strategic bomber ever built for the United States Navy.
Skywarriors saw some use in the conventional bombing and mine-laying role during the Vietnam War from 1965 through 1967, but most of its subsequent service was in the tanker, photographic reconnaissance, and electronic warfare roles.

 A-3 history
Progressively the Skywarrior’s role evolved as the Navy relinquished its strategic bombing role and began emphasizing the use of carriers and their aircraft in the context of limited wars such as the new conflict then flaring up in Vietnam.
As retirement day approached, the Skywarrior remained the heaviest aircraft ever to be operated from a carrier, a record take-off weight of 84,000 lbs.
The range capability of the A3D-1 was further exhibited during the first three days of September 1956 when aircraft of VAH-1 were launched from the USS Shangri-la whilst the carrier was steaming the Pacific from Mexico to Oregon and flew without refueling to their Florida home base at NAS Jacksonville.

 B-66 Destroyer / A3D Skywarrior
The first step was to delete from the Navy A3D the various inherent features of a carrier-based aircraft, such as folding wings, catapult capability, and arresting gear.
It also needed new emergency air brakes, wing spoilers, improved lateral controls, changes to the wing's angle of incidence to minimize dutch rol1, better cockpit pressurization, and a number of other improvements (Dutch roll is the colloquial expression used to describe the combined yawing and rolling motion of an airplane.
In the same vein, the airframe structure had to be strengthened to compensate for the greater stresses of low-altitude, high-speed operation.

 TINS TALES - Carrier Quals
In 1964 Woody was flying the A3D Skywarrior off the USS Hancock, one of the few remaining 27 Charlie (Essex-Class) carriers still in operational existence at the time.
After they were airborne, the A4's were to join up on a single A3D Skywarrior who would then take them individually to pre-designated radar-located Initial Points (IP) over the Okefenokee Swamp at 1,500 feet altitude where each Skyhawk would individually detach from the A3D and proceed on an attack heading to the designated target.
After leaving the A3D, the A4C's were supposed to stay on the run-in heading provided by the mother-plane, time their arrival over the target, accelerate to 500 knots, and descend to 500 feet above ground level (AGL) using their radar altimeter's for the run-in at the target.
