The Aarhus was a 640-tonne sailing (A sailing ship with 3 (or more) masts) barque built in 1875 in (A city in northern Germany on the Elbe River) Hamburg, (A republic in central Europe; split into East German and West Germany after World War II and reunited in 1990) Germany.
This site has lots of interesting life, from macro(?) to large (Bottom-dweller of warm western Atlantic coastal waters having a flattened scaleless body that crawls about on fleshy pectoral and pelvic fins) batfish at cleaning stations everywhere.

Many shipwrecks have occurred when the crew of the ship allowed the ship to collide with rocks, reefs or other ships.

Based on historical research, maritime archaeological surveys and documentation of collections of shipwreck artefacts held by private custodians, this attractive publication focuses on the forty historic shipwrecks that are known to have been wrecked on Lonsdale and Nepean reefs which guard the treacherous entrance to Port Phillip Bay.
With the large number of historic shipwrecks in a relatively small area which is subject to wave action, sand movement and currents, the area is also a complex composite site and much remains to be identified and located.

The sailing barque “Aarhus” sank in 1894 with a load of sperm whale oil and other goods, is protected by Historic Shipwreck legislation and requires a permit to be dived.
The majority of the wreck is covered with sand that comes and goes however there are many parts of it still identifiable not the least being some of the cargo of wire and most impressive – a large admiralty anchor that is easily recognisable.
The “Aarhus” is not just a great wreck dive but also an amazing critter dive as well with many photo ops of some usually hard to find subjects.
