Vinjestoga is the childhood home of the author and journalist Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870).
Aasmund Olavsson Vinje became a pioneer of Norwegian journalism with his weekly magazine called "Dølen" from 1858.
Aasmund's father built Vinjestoga in 1824 and it remains as it was during Vinje's time.

Judith Gabriel Vinje, with assistance from soprano Cara Clove and actor Trond Woxen, will present a program on the life of A.O. Vinje, "The Wandering Poet of Telemark," at 7:30 p.m.
Judith Vinje is a distant relative of the writer.

My grandmother was Julia Emelia Wing (Vinje.) AJ was her father, I believe, but she passed away before I was born (she died, I think, in the early 1930s.
My father, Henry Wing (Vinje) Kintzinger, always told me Julia had said we were related to Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, the poet.
I have been confused about this for years, as I know there is a Vinje in Etne, as well as in Telemark.

His artwork can be seen in all parts of the country.
Among his many sculptures are the monument over the author and fellow villager Aasmund Olavsson Vinje.

In ancient Norse mythology the gods lived in Åsgard, the humans in Midgard, and the bad giants in Jotunheimen.
