Jesusfreakhideout.com: Abandon, "Ambush" Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Formed in 2002 and taking their name from Luke 9:23, Abandon is a 5-piece rock outfit that will have you wondering why major labels aren't looking more towards the underground scene for new and exciting talent like this.
What makes the album even more unique is that the closer, "Waiting For," tones the tempo down heavily, but carries on a prolific message of urging the listener to make a difference in the world instead of waiting for the world to change on its own.
Abandon's mission statement is abundantly clear throughout the entire album.

Abandon, the title of the current Deep Purple project, began production in September 1997, and was completed in April 1998, including two breaks for touring.
On Abandon, Schneider was looking for a natural, organic-sounding Purple album, which he achieved by using more room mics and integrating the instruments as a whole, rather than strictly isolating them.
The Abandon sessions produced a total of 12 original songs, one of which was eventually scrapped from the project.

Abandon is the perfect name for the album because it represents the state of mind that the album leads its listeners to encounter.
My first reaction to this album was not due to the lyrics, the intelligently laid tracks, passionate vocals, or even to the album itself, but rather to a response to the heart of the album, which sent me to a place of worship.
Abandon is an album that artfully leads the listener away from itself and to the worship of our beautiful Lord and Savior, which is the focus of the lyrics.

i remember hearing abandon for the first time and i just didnt get it, it took a few listens to all come together and i think this album, although the content is entirely different, is going to get under my skin in much the same way.
Have had the album for a week, and whilst the high points are high the low points are already resulting in some serious skipping of tracks.

FATA albums just don't do it for me. They strike me as very mediocre musicians (minus the drummer, but i'm not a drummer so what do I know).
Fran has completely taken over writing duties (with the exception of 2 songs) and the whole point of FATA was the mixture of 2 very different lyrical styles.

A very good album (what album with Steve Morse is going to be truly terrible?), but it doesn't measure to some of their previous work.
The production on this album is 1st class with a much bassier sound than of late which adds to the overall sound.
This album itself has one or two strange tunes, most notably Haunted, which I think is one of the worst songs I've heard DP do and that's after a 35 year career.

Blistering.com Review: From Autumn To Ashes - Abandon Your Friends
Now with their third release upon us, the direction of the band is much clearer, with the album distinctly going in two completely different directions.
On the one hand, the more hardcore based material is a return to the bands sound on their debut, while the other half of the album is clearly the most melodic emo-rock based material the band have ever recorded, with Mark taking on more than half of the album’s lead vocals.
Abandon Your Friends is a mature and well-rounded effort (A view I tend to learn towards), and one that’ll embraced by some (And possibly a lot of new) followers.

The untitled instrumental that opens the album immediately sets a tone of bleakness that persists throughout the album’s 76 minutes.
In Reality We Suffer is a little like a photographic negative image of Isis’ Panopticon, in that both albums contain well constructed melodies as leverages to heavier moments, but while Isis have a lush sound and sometimes a calming effect, Abandon use a bare bones, discomforting, stark meditative method.
In Reality We Suffer is not always an easy listen, but what pushes the album from average to excellent is the band’s skill in developing the songs with just the right types and amounts of melody and tempo changes, which break up the trudging sections and provide texture to the raw, stark outlay.

Abandon Jalopy is the project title used for a collection of personal songs by former Blind Melon (later Unified Theory) bassist Brad Smith.
Smith began working on the album shortly after the death of Blind Melon frontman Shannon Hoon in 1995, and although the album was supposed to be issued in the late '90s, its release was held up until the summer of 2002 (via Smith's own Stank Face Laboratories label).
Titled Mercy, the album featured such special guests as former Blind Melon members Roger Stevens, Christopher Thorn, and Glenn Graham, as well as former Edie Brickell/Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain and Squirrel Nut Zippers trombone player Jim "Jimbo" Mathus, among others.

Deep Purple continued cranking out new albums into the late '90s, despite diminished audiences and little attention from the media.
Abandon is a harder-rocking album than its predecessor, but there's a number of layers to their rock, as they occasionally stretch into challenging neo-prog territory.
But the main thing about the album is that it hits hard and heavy -- harder than any Deep Purple album in recent memory and that makes a welcome revelation for hardcore followers.
