Abarta is a company with divisions that operate in the soft-drink, newspaper, magazine and oil and natural gas industries.
Abarta was founded in 1963 when John Bitzer Jr, George Roehr, and Don Taylor bought The Press of Atlantic City, and some interests in the Bethlehem and Pittsburgh Coca-Cola bottling franchises, from their father-in-law, Rolland Adams.
Abarta bought the Cleveland bottling franchise in its entirety in 1971, and then founded two divisions under itself, the Summit Supply Company in 1974 and Abarta Gas and Oil in 1979, and thus entered the natural gas market.
