  University of Delaware: ABBIE HUSTON EVANS LETTERS TO ODELL SHEPARD
American poet Abbie Huston Evans was born in New England on December 20, 1881 but lived most of her adult life in the Philadelphia area.
After graduation, Evans taught English and volunteered for the Red Cross during World War I. Following the war Evans was employed first as a social worker before she resumed teaching as a member of the staff of the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Abbie Huston Evans has been honored for her poetry with several awards, including the Guarantor’s Prize from Poetry in 1931 and the Loines Memorial Award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1960.

Huston, of this firm, has been in the business since January 10, 1882, at which time he succeeded the firm of Terry and Banks, the latter named gentleman having previously purchased an interest of M. Terry, the original proprietor.
Marion Huston, of the firm of Huston and Bailey, is a native of this county, born January 5, 1863, in Blandinsville township.

Abbie Evans, noted poet of the natural world, was born in Bristol, Maine and moved to Camden as a teenager.
Her frequent companion was Edna St. Vincent Millay whom Evans met when she was Millay's Sunday school teacher.
When Evans was 28, she enrolled at Radcliffe College where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Lena's father was John Evans who was a Cherokee official of some sort.

I am one who knows it." This essay is about how this applies to Jody, what I consider Jody's most costly lesson, proving the importance of him having to learn it, and my opinion on the price he unfortunately had to pay, and the knowledge he gained from that pain.
It is said that we should expect to pay for the lessons we learn in life.
