Abdallah was born in 1684 in Hama and was known for his skill as a goldsmith, the profession of his father.
Abdallah Zakhir’s press parts were hand crafted from the wood of the forests that surrounded the monastery.
According to the monks, Zakhir bought the central metal drums for the press from Aleppo or they may have been the gifts which were provided to him by the Monks of Aintourah, mentioned earlier.

Abdallah Khudhran al-Shamran, a Saudi Arabian national, was arrested with six others of different nationalities in al-Rutba in early April 2003 by US and allied Iraqi forces while travelling from Syria to Baghdad.
Abdallah decided to speak to a British soldier about his passport whereupon he was driven to another place of detention before being forced with two other detainees into a lorry and taken to a military field hospital and again interrogated and tortured.
Abdallah was then transferred to hospital, given treatment and later met with representatives of the ICRC to seek help in getting his passport returned.
