In the interim, the arrival of a new emir of Cordoba, Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi, who brought with him a huge force of Arabs and Berber horsemen, triggered a far greater invasion.
Emir Abdul Rahman was a good general, and did not like the unknown at all, and he did not like charging uphill against an unknown number of foes who seemed well-disciplined and well-disposed for battle.
Rahman had doubts before the battle that his men were ready for such a struggle, and should have had them abandon the loot which hindered them, but instead decided to trust his horsemen, who had never failed him.

 Battle of Tours (732 A.D.)
During the battle, the Franks defeated the Islamic army and Emir Abd er Rahman was killed.
As a gage, Uthman was given Eudes's daughter Lampade in marriage to seal the alliance, and Arab raids across the Pyrenees, Eudes' southern border, ceased [1].
Given the importance Arab histories of the time placed on the death of Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi Abd al Rahman and the defeat in Gaul, and the subsequent defeat and destruction of Muslim bases in what is now France, it seems reasonably certain that this battle did have macrohistorical importance in stopping westward Islamic expansion.

Battle of Toulouse (721) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thus, when Eudes returned, he was literally able to launch an almost totally surprise attack on the siege force, scattering it at the first attack, and slaughtering units which were resting, or fled without weapons or armour.
When Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi became governor of Al-Andalus in 730 he rebuilt the army, again raising levies from North Africa, Yemen, and Syria and invaded Gaul in strength in 732.
Ironically, while Eudes is forgotten, Martel became hailed as the savior of Europe, and of the Church itself.

 Tom Delay - Uncyclopedia
Once in the Texas Senate, Tom the Hammer quickly made a name for himself by cutting taxes, simplifying the tax code, instituting election district reforms, and mercilessly hunting down supporters of the outlawed Democrat rebels.
This came to an end with the invasion of Texas by Muslims led by Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi.
Al Ghafiqi, together with his rabid camels and even more rabid Mamelukes cut a swath of destruction across southern Texas, pillaging all they could find.

Battle of Tours - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Essentially, the Arabs wanted the Franks to come out in the open, while the Franks, formed in a tightly packed defensive formation, wanted them to come uphill, into the trees, diminishing at once the advantages of their cavalry.
It was a waiting game which Martel won: The fight began on the seventh day, as Abd er Rahman did not want to postpone the battle indefinitely with winter approaching.
As the battle of Tours came to a close on the evening of October 10, 732 AD, Charles "the Hammer" Martel and his Frankish army had defeated a large Moslem army under the leadership of Abd-er Rahman, governor of Spain.

However, the Frankish Mayor of the Palace of Austrasia, Charles Martel, managed to form an army of Gauls and Germans approximately 110,000 strong, and defeated Abdul Rahman in 732 (114 A.H.) near Poitiers, south of the Loire River.

if you read the forums on the net it is horrific; you'd think they're nothing but a potential martyr bank for al qaeda the way they talk.
link That was a full century, and eleven years after Charley-the-Hammer, Carolus' granddad, had defeated the Arab-Berber cavalry of Amir (Prince) Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi, somewhere between Tours and Poitiers with his Frankish (not really French yet, definitely not Roman anymore) heavy infantry.
That's too far North to be in Aquitaine, and a bit too off-center to be Pays de France, so you will kindly admit that placing it in Gaul is safely truthful, even more so since the Church of Peter still calls this territory by it's old Roman name.
