Abelian and tauberian theorems - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the abstract setting, therefore, an abelian theorem states that the domain of L contains convergent sequences, and its values there are equal to the Lim functional's.
A tauberian theorem states, under some growth condition, that the domain of L is exactly the convergent sequences and no more.
The development of the field of tauberian theorems received a fresh turn with Norbert Wiener's very general result.

Prime number theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roughly, the prime number theorem states that the density of primes numbers around n is approximately 1 / ln(n), where ln(n) denotes the natural logarithm of n.
The prime number theorem then states that the limit of the quotient of the two functions π(x) and x / ln(x) as x approaches infinity is 1.
The formulation of this belief was somewhat shaken by a proof of prime number theorem based on Wiener's tauberian theorem, though this could be circumvented by awarding Wiener's theorem "depth" itself equivalent to the complex methods.

In (A science (or group of related sciences) dealing with the logic of quantity and shape and arrangement) mathematics, a large number of methods have been proposed for the summation of (additional info and facts about divergent series) divergent series.
The name derives from (additional info and facts about Abel's theorem) Abel's theorem on (The sum of terms containing successively higher integral powers of a variable) power series.
The development of the field of tauberian theorems received a fresh turn with (United States mathematician and founder of cybernetics (1894-1964)) Norbert Wiener's very general result.

 Probabilistic Applications of Tauberian Theorems
This is primarily due to the fact that Tauberian theorems are finding ever-widening application in mathematical physics, the theory of differential equations, and probability theory.
By Abelian theorems are meant those assertions which allow to deduce from the asymptotic behaviour of sequences and functions the asymptotic properties of their generating functions and Laplace transforms (as well as other integral transforms).
Tauberian theorems are contained in the first chapter of the book.

 Abelian extension
In abstract algebra, an abelian extension is a field extension for which the associated Galois group is abelian.
The Kummer theory gives a complete description of the abelian extension case, and the Kronecker-Weber theorem tells us that if K is the field of rational numbers, an extension is abelian if and only if it is a subfield of a field obtained by adjoining a root of unity.
There is an important analogy with the fundamental group in topology, which classifies all covering spaces of a space: abelian covers are classified by its abelianisation which relates directly to the first homology group.

Online Encyclopedia and Dictionary - List of theorems
In some fields, theorem can be considered as a courtesy title, given to major results, although with a content that would not satisfy a mathematician.
No attempt is made here to comment on that aspect of usage: this is a list of results known as theorems.
Most of the results do come from mathematics, but there are others from theoretical physics, economics and so on.

The prime number theorem then states that the limit of the quotient of the two functions π(x) and x/ln(x) as x approaches infinity is 1.
This was not a rigorous, logical concept (and indeed could not be), but was rather based on the feeling that such a hierarchy of techniques should exist (for reasons of aesthetics, presumably, in Hardy's case).

These results are then applied in analytic number theory, complex analysis, and probability, with the aim of setting the theory in context.

Acta Sci. Math. (Szeged) -- vol. 65. num. 3-4, 1999
We establish some oscillation theorems for the nonlinear differential equation $$ [p(t)g(x)x']'+q(t)f(x)=r(t) $$ where $q,r\colon [t_0,+\infty)\to {\open R}$ are continuous functions and $p\colon [t_0,+\infty)\to (0,+\infty)$, $g\colon {\open R}\to (0,+\infty)$, $f\colon {\open R}\to {\open R}$ are continuously differentiable functions.
We consider continuity theorems for multiplicative integral transforms $\mathaccent "705E {f}$ of functions $f\colon (0, \infty) \to {\open R},$ i.e., we relate the limit behaviours $f_n \to f$ with $\mathaccent "705E {f_n} \to \mathaccent "705E {f}.$ These continuity theorems based on sequential compactness arguments lead to Abelian-- and ratio--Tauberian theorems for these integral transforms.
As an application, a well-known stability theorem on bounded representations is extended to this general situation.
