Lieutenant Eric Montague Abendana was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica on July 10, 1892, the son of I.
The reinforcement machine worked quickly after that, and in rapid succession, Lieutenant Abendana was transferred to the Engineer Reinforcement Battalion, the Engineer Pool in France and then, on 24 July 1918 to the 2nd Battalion Canadian Engineers, then serving in France with the Canadian Corps.
Eric Abendana was survived by his parents, Israel and Rebecca Abendana of Port Antonio, Jamaica as well as a number of brothers and sisters, several of whom became prominent in Jamaican affairs after the war.

His namesake, a schoolmate of mine from Wolmer's, Ken Spencer of Bellrose and King Burger fame, was one of his avid collectors who decorated his offices and outlets with many Abendana's paintings, telling his friends and customers that he was the artist.
On visiting the artist's home near Long Bay, I remember being personally escorted on a tour of this unique structure, with ascending stairs in a circular motion.
Here I was, standing beside one of Jamaica's best-known artists, a man whose paintings have been admired by more Jamaicans, both here and abroad, than any other Jamaican artist I know today.

KENNETH ABENDANA Spencer (born Kenneth Abondarno) who died on December 28, 2005 at the age of 76 was world renowned for his vibrant and natural style paintings depicting Jamaican life and its people.
