Aberaeron was planned and built in 1805 by the Rev. Alban Thomas Jones.
The shore-line at Aberaeron consists of generally steep storm beaches made of pebbles, although fine sand is visible at low tide levels.
The climate is mild and temperate, largely conditioned by the proximity of the relatively shallow sea.

Aberaeron is small coastal town 15 miles south of Aberystwyth that has a very pretty stone harbour area surrounded by colourfully painted houses (see photos 1 and 2).

In the days when ships used Aberaeron harbour, they would be moored at the far end of the wharf, known then as Cadwgan Buildings.
The smaller arm was the weigh house, and had an iron plate in the road where the horse drawn carts were weighed before and after loading.
James and Margaret Holgate, with Sarah and Louisa, came to Aberaeron in 1957 with 200 hives and the Quay took on a new lease of life.
