The Aberavon constituency stretches from the Bristol Channel in the south to the upper end of the Afan Valley in the north and from Kenfig Dunes in the east to Crymlyn Burrows in the west.
It, and the neighbouring Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies of Neath, constitute the County Borough Council of Neath Port Talbot.
Aberavon is in the Welsh EU Objective One area.

Friend the Member for Aberavon (Dr. Francis) not only on his good luck in securing a high place in the ballot, which is always something to celebrate, but on his wisdom in choosing this Bill and the manner in which he presented it at the beginning of the debate.
Friend the Member for Aberavon rightly said, a level of support and social care that is at least on the same scale as the total cost of the national health service.

 The Parliamentary Constituencies and Assembly Electoral Regions (Wales) Order 2006
The Boundary Commission for Wales ("the Commission") have, in accordance with section 3(1) of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986[1], submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated 31st January 2005[2] showing the parliamentary constituencies into which they recommend, in accordance with that Act, that Wales should be divided.
By virtue of section 4(6) of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act[9], the coming into force of the Order will not affect any parliamentary election until a proclamation is issued by Her Majesty summoning a new Parliament or affect the constitution of the House of Commons until the dissolution of the Parliament then in being.
The Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 is extended by Schedule 1 to the Government of Wales Act 1998 (the 1998 Act) for the purposes of the alterations to the electoral regions of the National Assembly for Wales and the allocation of seats to those regions.

"Aberavon" is a parliamentary constituency of south Wales Wales, on the right bank of the river Afan Afan, near its mouth in Swansea Swansea Bay, the original village of Aberavon or Aberafan nowadays being a district of Port Talbot Port Talbot.
The valley of the Afan, which is only three miles long, was from about 1840 1840 a place of much metallurgical activity, resulting in tinplate and engineering works (now mostly closed down).

We have miles of sandy beaches in the south of the constituency at Aberavon and Crymlyn Burrows, while a short journey away are the mountains of the upper Afan Valley.
Aberavon is also an industrial area incorporating both traditional industries such as steel, to the new generation of businesses that are beginning to locate on the Baglan Energy Park.
