At the time of our move to Strathmore, the population of Matawan Township was about 5,000 residents and with a building of 2,000 new homes, one of which we occupied, there was a large increase in population.
He was present at any Township emergency he could get to, so much so, that the workers in the various Township departments awarded him an honorary hard hat for his great interest and concern; however, there was something very strange about this area we lived in.
Aberdeen should not be faulted and neither should its Mayor for striving to firmly establish the Township's identity.

ABERDEEN, N.J. -- Township officials have declined to take a stance on New Jersey Transit's proposed Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex (MOM) rail line, part of which could run through the township and neighboring Matawan.
Last month, Matawan officials voiced strong opposition to the rail line after viewing an impact study that said if the line ran through the borough nearly 150 borough homes would be affected by train whistles and other noise, and one household may experience vibrations.
But Aberdeen Township Manager Mark Coren said Monday that more research needs to be done before township officials develop a position.
