Aberdovey is a seaside village of Merionethshire[?], North Wales, on the Cambrian railway[?].
The village was immortalised by the folk song, The Bells of Aberdovey (in Welsh, Clychau Aberdyfi).
The song refers to the legend of a submerged former kingdom under Cardigan Bay[?] (Seithennin, the drunkard, having created the bay itself), and its bells which can, they say, be heard ringing beneath the water.

Golf was first played at Aberdovey in 1886, when some members of Formby Golf Club, the Ruck family, discovered the potential of the terrain for playing golf but it was not until 1892 that Aberdovey Golf Club was officially instituted.
The flat 10th and 11th are notably strong par fours, while the par five 13th hole, playing directly along the coast and measuring some 530 yards, is rated as the most difficult on the course.
It is the par four, 16th hole, however, that is the most interesting at Aberdovey and there are probably as many theories on how best to play it as there are members at the club.
