  Abergwili
Abergwili is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, lying on the River Tywi.
The Wheat Sheaf pub in the village is one of the oldest in Carmarthenshire retaining rural charm.
The pinnacle of the village, Abergwili FC were formed in 1991, when it was felt the village needed to be re-launched as a vibrant suburb of Carmarthen.

Abergwili is situated on the outskirts of the market town of Carmarthen in South West Wales.
Abergwili is easily found from the M4 and A40 by following the signs from Carmarthen for Llandeilo (A40) and turning right at the Abergwili roundabout, signposted Abergwili and for Carmarthen Museum.
David's Abergwili, the largest of the three churches, serves the community of Abergwili and parts of Carmarthen town.

It was certainly in episcopal hands by 1220 when Rhys Grug was bound to restore 'all the lands at Abergwili' to the Bishop (James 1980, 19), but part of the church was granted to Carmarthen Priory in 1267.
Abergwili is a compact nucleation within the Tywi floodplain just above the level of the alluvium, the core of which is a single property row each side of the A40(T) road which follows the line of the Roman road through the Tywi Valley.
Also in the area are a former turnpike tollhouse, Abergwili railway station, a chapel, the school, the old vicarage and a council estate,and late 20th-century housing in a variety of styles and materials.

Though the PRICHARD family had first lived in Abergwili, JOHN may have moved to Carmarthen by 1661, when we assume he was the John Pritchard who paid 6d toward the Free and Voluntary Present to Charles II in Carmarthen in 1661 (PRO E179/264/15).
However, he married the daughter of a prominent gentry family in Abergwili, and his brother Hugh married her sister, so they must have been socially and financially acceptable to the local gentry.
Aranell was in Abergwili parish, probably on the river Anell which enters the Tywi river near White Mill, 4 miles east of Carmarthen, but the property has not survived as a known location.

 Railway Station
The Llanelly Railway and Dock Company was encouraged by the Central Wales Railway, and associated lines, and London and North Western Railway to build two lines in connection with the lines running from Craven Arms, north of Llandeilo.
at Abergwili Junction, then continued as a parallel standard gauge line to Carmarthen along the course of the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway.
The standard gauge tracks were continued to a junction with the Pembroke and Tenby Railway which had extended its tracks alongside the South Wales Railway to Carmarthen.

 Overview of the Llandeilo to Abergwili Line
From its opening in 1864, the line was operated by the train staff system and by 1871, at which time the branch was in the hands of the LNWR, it was controlled by absolute block telegraph and this system was replaced by electric train staff in 1896 and electric token in 1938.
The branch joined the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line at Abergwili Junction, which was ½ a mile beyond Abergwili station.
After that the LNWR gained running powers from Abergwili junction into Carmarthen for passenger trains only, which facilitated through trains to the north.

If one considers John Speed's map of 1610, you may see that the greater part of the Palace is still roofed and would possibly have been in use at that time.
Abergwili being more central suited his purposes more than St. David's.
He also petitioned the Archbishop of Canterbury to move the Cathedral from St. David's to Carmarthen, but this was not granted.

Also, the name "Margaretta" appeared in the Bishop's Transcripts of Abergwili, where the PRICHARD family had lived earlier in the century.
The question mark indicates the speculative nature of her Christian name, but not her family status.
