This ran from Abergynolwyn and Tywyn Pendre, short of the end of the line at Tywyn King's (now Wharf) station, which was reserved for slate traffic.
There was an incline from the railway into Abergynolwyn itself, the railway operating as a tramway behind all the houses in the village.
Abergynolwyn was effectively a quarry town (it had been built by the quarry in the first place) so the closure in 1909 was an enormous blow.

Leaning from the carriage window, we could see the driver keeping a sharp lookout from the footplate as #7 wound through the sharp reverse-curves along the Gwernol ravine.
After a brisk five minutes' run, the platform at Abergynolwyn hove into view; the driver made a considerable application of the air to bring us to a halt within the station limits.
On the Talyllyn, this was Abergynolwyn, and here we would stay until the crew's tea had been consumed with all due ceremony.

 Bryn Eglwys Quarry
Initially the plan was to build a railway from Bryn Eglwys to Aberdovey, however the construction of the standard-gauge Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway meant that only the section as far as Towyn (as it was then known) was required.
Powers to construct a railway from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn, plus a short connecting line at Tywyn which was never built, were obtained in 1865 when Parliament passed the Talyllyn Railway Act.
The excavated material was used to widen the formation west of Abergynolwyn station to provide for the eventual platform extension and re-sited loop.

From Craig yr Aderyn a little road leads over to Abergynolwyn, the terminus of the Talyllyn Railroad from Tywyn, which is claimed to be Wales's oldest narrow-gauge line (opened 1865) and has a width of only 27ins/67.5cm.
