Adventure! - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game, printed in fl and white on pulp-like sepia paper to resemble a period piece, was never supported by official supplements.
The Aeon line was discontinued shortly after the game's publication, despite a strong and vocal fanbase, but recently a d20 system version was released.
The game is set in the 1920s and therefore at the origin of the Aeon Universe timeline.

This is the premise of Aberrant, from White Wolf Game Studios.
There is a darker mood to the game, and if you follow the metaplot, a full-scale war will spark in 2049 between humanity and novas, with devastating results.

Aberrant is an intelligent, pathos-rich super-hero game written by a company (in)famous for its supernatural angst and anti-power gaming.
Aberrant is a game that I’ve played and collected for the last year, and its been a very enjoyable experience.
Aberrant is a very different game from the usual White Wolf fare and has even verged on originality in some places.

Review of White Wolf's "Aberrant", by John H. Kim
Aberrant is White Wolf's near-future superhero role-playing game, set in an alternate history in year 2008, where in 1998 an exploding research satellite spilled radioactive material throughout the atmosphere, triggering the activation of super-powered "novas" (similar to Marvel Comics' "mutants").
The game background has no link to the "World of Darkness" series of games, but is the prequel to the Trinity RPG.
While the avowed theme is "the ability of the individual to impact her world" (p112), the official future is fixed.

 Ex Libris Nocturnis -
Aberrant is the second game from White Wolf’s Aeon Universe line, and it covers the era before Trinity, a modern world where super-powered men and women take front stage.
Aberrant begins only a few years in the future, 2008, and the world is not that different from our own.
The game immediately brands itself as a "superhero" game from the get-go, and getting out of this mindset can be difficult if a Storyteller wishes to craft different types of stories.

The basic premise of the game is in 1998 the destruction of a space station in Earth orbit increases radiation levels worldwide, triggering a mutation in certain people and causing them to "erupt" as "novas", people with a node in their brain that allows them to manipulate quantum forces.
One of the charms of Aberrant versus most super-hero games is the player characters can and do make lasting changes in the world, whereas in the comics everything goes back to the status quo at the end of each issue (or adventure).
Overall, Aberrant is an excellent game with workable mechanics and an engaging setting full of interesting themes, not the least of which is power that's put into the hands of the player characters.

Yeah Aberrant is a bucket full of dice kinda game, but I always thought the auto successes from mega stats were a worse problem...right behind Q Blast.
Aberrant and Adventure were more trying to use storyteller to capture a feel of game that it was not well designed to do.
To put the game in context when it first came out, a new player only had to have the GM tell them how many dice to roll, count up the target number he mentions and "1" cancel the number.

The game doesn't suffer a syndrome common to many white-wolf games, this is an added plus.
There are a few faults with this game, like a few typesetting errors (like the two sample characters in the back), and the first half of the book (which is full color and incharacter about the setting) lacks any real method of navigation.
Also, the game takes place in 2008 after 10 years of having super genius novas around, it's suprising how little things changed (Sure there are lasers, although they are huge weapon emplacements, and their are a number of conveniences like the OpNet replacing the Internet).

Why I like Adventure!, but not Aberrant or Trinity - RPGnet Forums
I did run a one-year Aberrant game in something not wholly unlike the default setting (I added a bunch of stuff of my own generation, but the core elements of the setting were all present).
Aberrant tried to tap into the vein comics that have the X-Men and the Watchmen as grandparents, gritty and realistic as possible in a super-power setting.
Which makes more sense, to take three games which have the same setting, and making them thematically similar, so that people who enjoy one are likely to enjoy the others, or to make three games which have different, in some cases antithetical, approaches to their setting, all using what amounts to the same mechanics?

Aberrant is a system that took ww and turned it into a pure rules system, they had too, it and trinity are just begging for munchkins.
Aberrant can be a powergamer or a storyteller game, using the rule can give you players gods, they can do everything: for example you can have a PC with both disintegration and matter creation with experience and some major taint.
Given that Aberrant is a superheroic game (whether WW owns up to this or not), giving the major good guys and bad guys the equivalent of plot immunity by not bothering to stat them out goes against one of the basic tenets of the genre (IMHO).

In many of my games, I have a metaplot in mind, an overarching theme that is eventually intended to tie loose threads together.
This will not be a "team" game (i.e., this is not "X-Men 2045"), so while I hope PCs will interact, and I will try to arrange it so they do, it's not necessarily my intention to bring you all together into one thread.
If you want a character who begins the game not yet possessed of metahuman powers and don't mind letting the GM decide what your powers are, just give me a normal character.

The latest supplement for Aberrant is 24 monochrome pages (plus colour cover) containing four articles by Duke Rollo, the gonzo journalist of the Aberrant era who is ever so slightly inspired by Raoul Duke, Hunter S Thompson's alter ego.
Apart from the cover and the credits page the book is all background material, making it nearly suitable as a prop to give to players, a series of drug-blurred snapshots of the world their characters live in.
Compared to Expose: Aberrants, a previous book in the line of the same size, Fear And Loathing is less useful to the Aberrant gamer.

White Wolf Forums :: View topic - Aberrant for the nWoD
Morality/Harmony/Humanity in all of the nWoD games so far, has to do with a person's willingness to commit sins (for lack of a better word) and what happens to their mental state when they commit evil acts.
For Aberrant, it should be Humanity, because you are no longer human, and you are trying (or not) to hold onto your lost Humanity.
This is what I did in my game, and I tied Taint into Humanity, allowing characters to sacrifice Humanity in exchange for experience, and redeveloping the maxing and taint gaining systems to reflect Humanity degeneration with various penalties.
