Abiel Leonard of Fayette, Missouri, was a lawyer, landowner, and prominent Whig, who began his law practice in Missouri in 1819 and served on the Missouri Supreme Court in the 1850s.
The Abiel Leonard Papers were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by Leonard family members, Nathaniel W. Leonard, Jeanette Spencer, and Perry Spencer in 1933, 1934, and 1945, and by Mrs.
Abiel's death in 1863 is noted by resolutions of the Bar of Fayette.

Maria, eldest of Abiel's children, was born in Canterbury in 1831 and married Joseph Barnard Jr.
Martha, the second daughter of Abiel and Eliza, was born in Canterbury in 1832 and died in 1875 in Dundas, Ontario, Canada.

 Abiel F. Walker, planemaker of Alna, Maine
The Davistown Museum was fortunate in being able to obtain a small collection (+/- 20) of Abiel Walker's planes directly from the attic of the house in which he lived most of his life in Alna, Maine, in September of 2001.
Due to the location in which they were found and the family provenance, the identity of Walker as a planemaker as well as a craftsman was and is clearly known.
Abiel Walker was a carpenter, boat builder and planemaker who spent most of his life in Alna, Maine (1808 - 1875).

Their third born was Abiel Codding, the subject of this sketch, and about a year after his birth they removed to a farm in East Attleborough.

In March 1855, a Bill for school desegregation by the Board of Aldermen and the Committee of Public Instruction was placed before the State House of Representatives.
The decades long battle by Black Bostonians for the equal education of their children showcased the determination, perseverance, and drive of the community for freedom, dignity, and equality.
This battle culminated in the closing of the Abiel Smith School in 1855 and the rights of all Massachusetts children, at least under state law, to receive equal public education.
