Christians shouldn't be alarmed at the finding, we should remember from church history that even from the first century there were those that tried to add things to the narrative of Jesus' life and add practices they deemed necessary to accompany faith in Christ (things such as circumcision, dietary regulations, rules about clergy marrying, etc.).
I think Christians must be about the business of reading Scripture and studying Scripture, culture, and be aware of meshes with the truth and what doesn't.
Certainly, without the cross, Christianity is not worth our allegiance, and the trouble that a life radically altered by the Spirit of this crucified-resurrected Jesus causes in this world.

Christians did not attempt to force those attitudes or practices on non-Christians.
Christians did feel free to include them as part of the gospel, the Good News, they preached to non-Christians -- not as a judgmental rebuke but as joyful witness to the freedom of their own life in Christ.
In general, early Christians assumed that healings were manifestations of the redemptive power of God; they were more concerned to keep them in this perspective than, as in our time, either to promote healing as central to Christian experience or to deny their their occurence.
