David M. Lederman, Abiomed's founder, president and chief executive officer, said sales of the assist device established a network of hospitals and doctors familiar with the company, which laid the groundwork for acceptance of its artificial heart, which is called the AbioCor.
Abiomed spokesman Ed Berger said the goal is to protect patient confidentiality, and to keep the surgical teams focused on patient care with no distractions from the media.
