Abomination (Bible) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abomination is an English term used to translate the Biblical term תֹּועֵבָה tōʻēḇā or to'ba (noun) or ta'ab (verb).
This permission could not be accepted, because Moses said they would have to sacrifice "the abomination of the Egyptians" (Exodus 8:26); i.e., the cow or ox, which all the Egyptians held as sacred, and which they regarded it as sacrilegious to kill.
The word "abomination" is also used in Jewish (and Christian Old Testament) scriptures to refer to homosexual activity (Leviticus 18:22), Leviticus 20:13), idolatry (Deuteronomy 7:25, Deuteronomy 13), cross-dressing (Deuteronomy 22:5), cheating in the market by using rigged weights (Deuteronomy 25:13-19, Proverbs 11:1), and dishonesty (Proverbs 12:22).

At page 1, bottom of page, you state that after the 3 1/2 years the antichrist will take away the right to sacrifice and declare himself to be god, and you call this time the abomination of desolation.
I have understood that in Dan.12:11 it says that from the time the sacrifice is taken away there are 1290 days before the abomination that makes desolate is set up.
Concerning the identity of the "abomination of desolation," I believe it both to be the antichrist taking "his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God" (2 Thess.

What is the abomination of desolation
Jesus, in Matthew 24:15, was speaking some 200 years after the abomination of desolation had already occurred.
So, Jesus must have been prophesying that some time in the future the abomination of desolation would reoccur in a Jewish temple in Jerusalem.
It is the antichrist who in the end times will establish a covenant with Israel for seven years and then break it by doing something similar to the abomination of desolation in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem.

"The Abomination of Desolation - Future or Fulfilled?" by Ralph Woodrow
By simply letting the Bible explain itself, we have seen that the “desolation” was to be the destruction of Jerusalem (city and temple); the “abomination of desolation” referred to heathen armies that would bring about the desolation; and when these armies would be seen compassing Jerusalem, the disciples were to flee.
We have reference to the teaching that the “abomination of desolation” is an idol to be placed in the holy of holies of a rebuilt Jewish temple — possibly an idol of the antichrist or the antichrist himself.
The teaching that the abomination of desolation is something yet future, not only requires a future and different temple, but such a temple — instead of being destroyed — is pictured as a place where the antichrist would set up an idol to be worshipped.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Abomination of Desolation
While thus disagreeing as to the precise sense of the Hebrew phrase usually rendered by "the abomination of desolation", Christian scholars are practically at one with regard to its general meaning.
Many scholars have thought, and still think, that the introduction of the Roman standards into the Holy Land, and more particularly into the Holy City, shortly before the destruction of the Temple, is the event foretold by Our Lord to His disciples as the signal for their flight from Judea.
But this view is commonly rejected for the simple reason that "the abomination of desolation" spoken of by Daniel and referred to in St.

And so we see that in simple terms, the Abomination of Desolation is the prophesied coming of a detestable (abominable) thing in the Holy Temple where Christ says there will be many false Christs' and false prophets, and their deception so great that it would even deceive the Chosen if that were possible.
Abomination is almost exclusively used in scripture to signify false gods, and Desolation is an unambiguous term as well.

Daily Bible Study - Abomination of Desolation - Where?
Idols (see Second Commandment) are just as abominable to God as pigs (see Clean and Unclean) and both were abominations that caused desolation of the Temple, but neither of those incidents can possibly be what Christ was talking about in describing the yet future time of His return.
In its full context, Christ's reference to the abomination of desolation wasn't talking about the incident with Antiochus IV, which occurred over 150 years before Christ made that prophecy, or the Roman military idols, which happened only about 40 years after Christ made that prophecy.
Christ's prophecy doesn't specify what the abomination will be, but it will be just as despicable to God's Holy Place as the sacrifice of a pig, or the worship of an eagle idol, both of which have already happened.
