The book's subtitle is "The Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples by Church and State in Canada." The book discusses the real and cultural genocide alleged to have occurred in the treatment of Canada's First Nations people by the Canadian government and the state-sanctioned church.
The phrase "Canadian Holocaust" is used to draw a comparison with the mass genocide of Jewish and other people in World War II.

The fabrication of Aboriginal history by Keith Windschuttle   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The penalty for the unlawful killing of an Aborigine was death, the same as for killing a white man. This was enshrined in one celebrated incident, the Myall Creek Massacre of 1838, where a group of convict and ex-convict stockmen killed twenty-eight Aboriginal men, women, and children encamped on a pastoral station.
Third, the idea that Aborigines were patriots engaged in a brave but futile defense of their territory against the firepower of British imperialism is a piece of ideology derived from the anti-colonialist movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
As for the Aborigines being driven into conflict by starvation after native game was eliminated, many frontier pastoralists reported that, after they had removed the timber to expand their pastures, in most places they suffered “a plague” of kangaroos, whose populations exploded to take advantage of the greatly increased supply of grass.

 Holocaust (disambiguation)
Because the term "Holocaust" is so closely tied in contemporary times to the Jewish experience at the hands of the Nazis, use of it in other contexts may be seen by some as controversial or even offensive.
Similarily, the Asian Holocaust can be used to describe the mass murder of over 15 million civilians and POWs (including deaths due to Unit 731) in China, Korea, Indochina, Philippines, Dutch East Indies and the rest of the Pacific islands by the Imperialist Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War 2.
The term Hiroshima Holocaust is used to describe death of at least 140,000 civilians as the direct effect of nuclear bomb dropped on the city of Hiroshima and 130,000 who died due to damages from radiation.

The current state of many individual Aborigines is tragic, and it does not help these individuals who desperately need help, to be patronized by academics that have their own selfish self-interests at heart.
And thus are born dissenters, heretics, ‘Holocaust deniers’, and in most instances ‘racists’ because criticism of the ‘Jewish Holocaust’ is deemed to be a racist matter, which it is not.
He claims that Dr Robert Faurisson is one of the Holocaust deniers “who typifies their narrow, forensic approach when he insists that if the holes in the roof of the now-ruined chambers through which the poison was poured cannot be identified, the case for gassing collapses: ‘no holes, no Holocaust’.

The Aboriginal people have been fighting with the Australian government to recognize the injustices done to them throughout the years of colonial settlement, particularly the removal of Aboriginal children from their parents in the 1950s in a misguided policy of assimilation.

APTN FORUMS -> Is Canada Guilty Of Its Own Holocaust?
Cultural genocide is the flip side of holocaust and to even consider the residential schools and forced adoption of aboriginal children as somehow less than outright murder is a clue that many still do not 'get it'.
A holocaust is a great destruction of life and genocide is the policy of deliberately killing a nationality or an ethnic group.
There is little doubt that aboriginal societies all over the planet have suffered at the hands of people that believed they were on their gods’ team or just better than people that were different.

Nevertheless, Windschuttle cites Lyndall Ryan, in her book, The Aborigines of Tasmania (1981) 2nd ed., as saying that Tasmanian aborigines were victims of a conscious policy of genocide.
Windschuttle has been called an Australian revisionist, and so he is about the aboriginal scene, but he is not a so-called "holocaust denier" because he does not challenge the Holocaust orthodoxy.
Like Blainey, it mentions that Australian aborigines were nomads, with no sense of a unified ‘nation.’ It also documents the way in which castaways unfortunate enough to be wrecked on Cape York, were murdered in horrific and brutal ways.

 Australian Memories Of The Holocaust
One would like to think that Holocaust denial could never progress from the fringe to the mainstream, but the history of antisemitism provides ample proof that absurdity is no barrier to acceptability.
If Holocaust denial is recognised for what it is: antisemitism as the thin end of the wedge for broader racism, fascism and Nazism, then it should be subject to all the limitations placed on racist activity, including being subject to racial vilification legislation.
The Holocaust deniers contend that to oppose their Holocaust denial is to oppose freedom of speech, academic inquiry and the pursuit of the historical truth.

Indeed, so insistent is Israel on retaining its 'official story' of the Holocaust that for decades now some of the most outstanding works of scholarship on Jewish history and politics--including volumes by Hannah Arendt and even Raul Hilbert's monumental study, 'The Destruction of the European Jews'--have not been translated into Hebrew.
As Segev notes, in Israel today the Holocaust, by one measure at least, has an even higher status than religion, since the maximum legal penalty for denying the existence of God is one year in prison, while the punishment for denying the existence of the Holocaust is up to five years imprisonment.

For it was the residential "schools" that constituted the death camps of the Canadian Holocaust, and within their walls nearly one-half of all aboriginal children sent there by law died, or disappeared, according to the government's own statistics.
That aboriginal people were deliberately killed in the residential schools is confirmed by eyewitness testimonies, government records and statements of Indian agents and tribal elders.
Clearly, the genocidal assault on aboriginals was not only physical but spiritual: European culture wished to own the minds and the souls of the native nations, to turn the Indians it hadn't killed into third-class replicas of white people.

With few exceptions representations of the physical conquest of Aboriginal people and their lands are framed as sporadic 'encounters' with the 'natives', usually concerning the theft or spearing of livestock.

Finally, and perhaps of greatest importance, is the colonial history and holocaust of Indigenous peoples that characterises both these nation-states.  Indeed, after originating from such shameful origins, it would in fact be a surprise if Canada had managed to truly distinguish itself from the United States on issues that actually matter.
Ultimately, however, the net result is the same: Aboriginal people are still regarded as inferior, de facto, while the Canadian state (and therefore the Canadian people) continues to benefit from the expropriation and exploitation of their lands, whether it is for fishing, hunting, tree logging, mining or oil drilling.
