Kovoor, like his wife, had willed that his body be given to the medical college in Colombo, and he had donated his eyes to a Madras hospital, which were promptly grafted on two blind men.
According to Kovoor, “euthanasia is the merciful act of painlessly terminating the life of an organism suffering from an incurable disease or wound.” Though euthanasia is practiced on animals, it is prohibited in the case of human beings.

I was told by Mr C. Pathmanathan in Sri Lanka who used attend the meeting of the rationalist association of Sri Lanka, how Dr Kovoor used to distribute the so-called "Holy Ash" in the same manner as some self-appointed Hindu gurus did.
The Buddha's rejection of authority, tradition, hearsay, dogma and so on, and his position - stated very clearly to the enquiring Kalama people of the village Kesaputta - that one should accept something as true and valid on the basis of verification by oneself, naturally appealed to the rationalist mind.
Dr Kovoor disregarded his Christian faith and tradition as he couldn't accept the Bible as the word of an omniscient god.

Another reason expostulated by the religious fraternity is that religion is the only source of morality which Kovoor maintains is not correct.  An inquiry into the origins of the concepts of "right" and "wrong" reveals, says Kovoor, that even the most primitive races, long before the rise of organized religions, developed certain codes of conduct.
Kovoor talks of such an incident where in as a young boy when he took a dip in Ganges to come up and see a rotting hand floating in the water.
Kovoor’s aim was to enlighten people and to teach them to go by reason and scientific verification.  Dr.Kovoor passed away on 18th September, 1978 and left behind a body of work which even is more relevant today than ever.

Abraham Kovoor, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2004) of Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute/University of California, San Francisco, plans on studying what role a protein called dishevelled might play in how antipsychotic drugs work in the dopamine pathway.

The District Rationalist Association of which I was founder member had organized a meet in the city with Dr Kovoor as main speaker.
I remember back in 1976 when Abraham Kovoor came to Mangalore to speak on 'Rationalism' sponsored by SKRA at Don Bosco Hall under the leadership of Narendra Nayak.
Abraham Kovoor must have decided to decamp then, but the old man didn't understand what Arunachalam Kumar was trying to convey at his full soprano tone!
