Absu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Their lyrical themes are esoteric, ranging from Celtic myths and legends, Azif's theology of the Necronomicon Mesopotamian/Sumerian mythology (especially under the powers of Dumuzi, Uruk, and the infamous Ugalla-demons), Etymology of Thoth, Tasseomancy, Sorcery, and weaponry skills of Cnihthad.
Absu was formed in 1991 by Equitant Ifernain (Guitars, Bass, Lyrics) and Shaftiel (Guitars, Vocals).
With Absu still on hold, Proscriptor continues to work on other projects including Equimanthorn (with Equitant and members of The Soil Bleeds Black), Proscriptor (his own project of neo-folk/classic rock fused music), and Starchaser Network (electronic art band that is exclusively dedicated to space, sound and sleaze) with Equitant and Victorious.

But actually, Absu has not toured in four years and it's just due to the lack of members that the band has had.
It's just very difficult to find somebody that can fit to the style of Absu, but hopefully we will be able to tour in October and November in Europe and then follow with a US and an entire North American excursion afterwards.
He is basically just concentrating on working on new Absu material because he does the writing of all the riffs, rhythms, and the material.

 [No title]
Absu use the term "mythological occult metal" to describe themselves for their own reasons, and though the term is essentially just an idiosyncratic, relatively direct description of what they actually create, in 2001 it's as useful a label as any you could propose.
What is most uniquely wonderful about Absu is that the praise and high regard accorded to them does not cease when we move on from speaking of their music in isolation from the lyrics that accompany it or the concepts and ideas that are at work behind it.
Absu are meticulous, and though their purpose is not to teach, _Tara_ is intended to be interpretable and understandable by any listener of Absu willing to spend some time with it in its entirety -- lyrics booklet and all.

 Absu - Thrashing Black Metal
Absu combine the two elements, sounding like a Scandinavian death metal band with a fl metal ideal and some death metal adaptations in the Western hemisphere style (a good band to compare in terms of approach would be Hypocrisy, who have a similar mix of influences but a different take on the aesthetic of them).
Absu's gritted-teeth vocal scream and chanted recitations melt into the background swimming with strumming rhythm repeated over chord and melody shift: the evil shuddering speed of nervous deconstruction.
Without ever peaking any new frontiers in metal or music Absu bring a closure to many of these styles, a historical fixation that at its core might be something like Mercyful Fate but might also contain the historical work of other evil metal pioneers Slayer, Morbid Angel, Bathory.

TWAS 471: ABSU, Bathory, Stratovarius, Gackt
In their pursuit of mythology and magic, ABSU have at least understood that the soul of a mythology is the explanatory completeness of its world-story, and the corresponding crucial element of the performance of magic is the violation of what otherwise seems like a complete competing explanation of the world.
ABSU may be dolts, inspired by ill-grasped inanity, but the musical form their inspiration takes is certainly distinctive.
And if ABSU's error was thinking that "atmosphere" is the collective plural of allusions, then Bathory understand that the feeling this kind of music aspires to engender is really far simpler.

Lest you suspect such an utterance to be mere and insincere hype, let it be known that these guys are definitely one of my very favorite metal bands, and have been since I first encountered the titanic thrash and epic esoterica of _The Sun of Tiphareth_, their second full-length release.

It is no secret to my readers that Absu and the Metallian Towers have had a rocky relationship.
The bagpipes and most of the guest vocals are partly pathetic and partly pompous, but the instruments compensate by casting a good mixture of Slayer, eighties speed metal and more modern riffs.
Now were the band to ditch the bagpipes and, er, bag the pretensions to the throne of the Highlands, Absu may become good enough for repeat listens an album or two down the line.

ABSU really confuses me because they are fl metal, but they're not always flattering Lord Sathanas in all of their songs!!!" I just wanted to say that discouragement, dejection, and negativity will always occur in ANY journalistic field of music and music reviews.

A typical ABSU performance is usually consisted of blood, wine, vermillon, steel, iron, leather, animal fur, alligator skin, sweat, hot lights, silver, glitter, smoke, fog, hate, more blood, deathly attitudes, and a slight amount of denim and leather!
It is fundamentally what ABSU is based upon, lyrically, and mainly the occult, let alone.

Often grouped in fl metal, the approach of Absu encompasses the whole spectrum of metal -- thrash, death, fl, progressive -- with one element seamlessley melded with another, and still another, united by a high degree of technicality and/or speed.
TARA is broken up into 2 phases: "Ioldanach's Pedagogy" and "The Cythraul Klan's Scrutiny." The bagpipes opening Phase One segue into "Pillars of Mercy," which sets the higher standard of aggression and precision to follow in the album's fifty plus minutes.
