Abu Dhabi, also Abu Zaby, city in north central United Arab Emirates, capital of the federation, and capital of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, a port on the island of Abu Dhabi in the Persian Gulf.
Abu Dhabi is a financial, transportation, and communications center for a rich petroleum-producing region and the site of an international airport and an artificial deepwater harbor at Port Zayed.
The emirate of Abu Dhabi is the largest and wealthiest of the United Arab Emirates.
