David Feldman proposed a motion that it is the sense of the Caucus that Senator Carr's presentation to the Academic Senate two weeks ago represented his opinion and his opinion only.
The Judiciary Committee proposes that the academic department chairs constitute the faculty senate, since they are experienced and knowledgeable, have the confidence of the faculty, and get compensation for their extra responsibilities.
The motion, that `it is the sense of the Caucus that in Senator Carr's presentation to the Academic Senate two weeks ago he honestly and objectively presented publicly available facts and did not attempt to represent the opinions of other members of the commission', passed on a voice vote.

 Title V Regulations
(b) "Academic senate," "faculty council," and "faculty senate" means an organization formed in accordance with the provisions of this subchapter whose primary function is, as the representatives for the faculty, to make recommendations to the administration of a college and to the governing board of a district with respect to academic and professional matters.
That the district governing board, or such representatives as it may designate, and the representatives of the academic senate shall have the obligation to reach mutual agreement by written resolution, regulation or policy of the governing board effectuating such recommendations.
In instances where the governing board elects to rely primarily upon the advice and judgment of the academic senate, the recommendations of the senate will normally be accepted, and only in exceptional circumstances and for compelling reasons will the recommendations not be accepted.

The academic units shall complete the election of their senators who are to assume office for the subsequent academic year and report the results to the Secretary of the Senate by March 1.
The Senate shall have the power to remove, by secret ballot of two-thirds of the voting senators, a senator who is unduly absent.

The Senate Resolutions on Academic Dishonesty, which are directed toward both undergraduate and graduate students, specify the procedures to be followed in the event that a student is charged with academic dishonesty.

 Academic Regulations - Part III
Exceptions to this requirement may be made by an appropriate agency of the Academic Senate Division of the student's campus.
A candidate for the degree of Master of Arts or Master of Science must either have obtained a Bachelor's degree from one of the academic colleges of this University, or have pursued successfully a course of study equivalent to that represented by such a degree.
A voting member of the Senate may be recommended for a higher degree by a Senate Division of which he or she is not a member provided that the voting member has fulfilled all the requirements of that Division.

 ASUA approves academic integrity amendment - April 20, 2000
Smith first approached the Senate in January with an amendment that would restrict students from using previous work from other classes without approval from the professors.
The changes state that a student can resubmit an item of academic work as long as the student includes proper citation or permission from the professor.

 Reporting Academic Misconduct
Academic Senate regulations require faculty to report violations because centralized reporting is essential for fair and impartial administration of the Code of Academic Conduct and to ensure that repeat offenders are identified and penalized accordingly.
Under Academic Senate Regulation 550, faculty may assign a grade of ã0ä or ãFä to the examination or assignment on which cheating, plagiarism or other academic dishonesty has been admitted or proven after a hearing.
Suspected academic misconduct should be reported to the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, Room 3200 Dutton Hall, 752-1128, which has responsibility for administering student discipline on campus, by delegation of authority from the Chancellor.

Members of the University staff may wear any dress prescribed by the Senate for their office in the University, or the academic dress to which they are entitled or, if not so entitled, a plain black Oxford bachelor’s gown with a mortar board.

Ohio Senate Bill 24 is said to be modeled after the "academic bill of rights" proposed by conservative activist David Horowitz.
"Senate Bill 24 would shift the responsibility for course content and student evaluation from highly trained faculty to the state government or the courts," ACLU-Ohio says.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio says the bill would "censor" Ohio colleges and universities because it could be used to "curtail academic freedom and to encourage thought policing in our institutes of higher education."
