  Academy Award
The Awards are granted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a professional honorary organization which as of 2003 had a voting membership of 5816, with actors, with a membership of 1311, making up the largest voting block.
Academy Awards are nicknamed "Oscars", which is also the nickname of the statuette (the name is said to have been born when Academy librarian Margaret Herrick saw the statuette on a table and said: "It looks just like my uncle Oscar!").
The awards were first given at a banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on May 16, 1929 but there was little suspense since the winners of the awards had already been announced three months earlier on February 18.

 Welcome to Bitter Films
The film's first cut - clocking in at over twelve minutes and running slow as molasses - was trimmed and re-trimmed in the usual microscopic method (it's always amazing how a scene crosses the line between funny to not funny in less than four frames), and was radically retooled in places.
Don animated the lip synchs of many characters before any dialogue was recorded (and in some places, written!), requiring the actors to perform their lines against the finished cartoon, a very backwards method: although this is generally a bad idea, it allowed for fresh improvisation.
Don performed some experiments with the animation camera's motor to achieve the desired camera and motion blurs, whereas the crumple and paper effects are a simple blend of stop-motion-animated paper and traditional animation, not unlike Genre.

The Epoch Times | ‘Ryan’ and the Plight of Great Shorts
It is an example of why it is worth the time and effort to seek out short films, but since shorts rarely get beyond very limited showings in art house theaters in large cities, it is difficult to recommend them, given the very small angle of opportunity for public access.
Even with a long list of cash-winning prizes and awards at competitions and festivals from Canada to Sweden to Spain and many others, the best of short films will have difficulty being seen by more than a small percentage of the population.
One thing someone can do is to call that small theater in the community that shows old and new limited distribution films, as well as old classics (these theaters are often known as “art houses”) and ask if it is going to have a series of short films.
