The JUne 2005 release of Lanois latest Belladona album - (OK but not startling) sent me back to listen to Acadie his masterwork of only for its simple textures.
Probably the best album of 2004 - mix The Beach Boys with dance music sonics and ambients with stunning harmonies and some of the very best orchestration I've heard in a long time and you have The earlies completing with some intruguing Christian allusions.
Dismissed by my kids as supermarket rock - but I just love the album and it issues forth from their rooms with interesting regularity - perhaps its not cool but it great to listen to

Subject: Willie's new album Date: Mon, 10 Aug 1998 10:01:32 -0400 X-Msmail-Priority: Normal X-Priority: 3 Friends, I am glad to say that I have heard the new Willie Nelson album, and though it is not as "Lanois" as "Wrecking Ball" that it is a fine album.
Wim Wenders spent two days filming the Willie Nelson album live at his studio, Teatro, this is going to be released in different commerical and promotional ways over the life of the project.
Production on the album is not as "treated" as past Lanois projects, and I expected a much more atmospheric sound, but I think that the album (titled "Teatro") is on par with "Oh Mercy"'s production.

Amongst other qualities, the record was notable for the mighty production of Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and it's their contributions to this entertaining account of the album's creation that stand out.
Time Out Magazine's review, if anyone's interested, went as follows: "However inflated and bombastic U2 have grown in the meantime, the band can rightly point to their 1987 album 'The Joshua Tree' as a landmark in 80's pop.
Also I am trying to locate the "Sessions at the West 54th" where Neil Young, Emmy Lou and Daniel Lanois were present..Can you please be of any assistance to me in this search..I thank you for the time spent replying to my email..May each and all of you be blessed in everything you accomplish..

Tower Records - Shine - Daniel Lanois
Actually, it sounds like that album's low-key atmospherics married to the superstar cameos of Lanois' debut, ACADIE.
Nearly a third of the 13 songs are instrumentals, with the spooky "Transmitter" and the simply gorgeous, pedal-steel-driven closer "JJ Leaves LA" among the album's highlights.
Coming a full 10 years after Daniel Lanois' last solo album, SHINE in many ways picks up exactly where FOR THE BEAUTY OF WYNONA left off.

Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton performed on two tracks on Daniel Lanois' Acadie album.
This album was produced by longtime U2 producer Daniel Lanois, and it was Daniel's involvement which brought Larry Mullen to the project.
If you are a fan of Lanois, this is an album to get as his influence over the album is definitely felt throughout as the main musical collaborator and producer.

As for Dave Marsh, thinking Dan Lanois sucks (Eno too), because of his slow pompous style and ruing the day that Lanois should ever produce a Springsteen album, I wonder if he has ever heard Bruce's 1982 album, Nebraska, a haunting album not unlike Dan's for the Beauty of Wynona.
As I have said in the past, I am more of an Eno fan than a Lanois fan, but the article in ACADIE 194 helped me to understand Dan better.

Adam Clayton played bass on "Still Water" and "Jolie Louise" on Daniel Lanois 1989 album Acadie.

Lanois returned to his own musical muse in 1993 with 'For The Beauty Of Wynona' and toured as part of the Tragically Hip's 'Another Roadside Attraction' but like 'Acadie' before it was a commercial failure.
Lanois and Gabriel worked so well together that he was asked to produce Gabriel's 1986's million selling 'So' album which finally launched Gabriel as an accessible commercial recording artist.
In 1989, he spearheaded Bob Dylan's comeback album 'Oh Mercy' as well as the Neville Brothers' 'Yellow Moon' considered to be a breakthrough for the New Orleans soul group.

Oh Mercy demands a different approach than, say, Blonde On Blonde, and it shouldn't be exposed to daylight.

The band's name BeauSoleil comes from a nickname for Joseph Broussard, one of the heroes in the Acadian resistance against the English in Acadie who later joined the Acadians in Louisiana.
BeauSoleil's debut album, "The Spirit of Cajun Music," was released in 1977.
Michael Doucet and BeauSoleil have deservedly gained international renown for their inspired interpretation of traditional Cajun music and their innovation in "Cajunizing" other musical styles--jazz, Caribbean, or even Tex-Mex. Doucet began playing in a folk rock band with his cousin, Zachary Richard, when they were about 12.

With the advent among them of Father Lefebvre and the establishment of St. Joseph's College, there dawned a new era, and in the brief space of three decades there was wrought a veritable transformation.
Thanks mainly to his initiative, his personal service, and the enthusiasm with which he imbued his fellow-workers in the college and the leaders of the people themselves, Father Lefebvre lived to see the practical servitude and inferiority in which he found the Acadians replaced by genuine equality and freedom.
