 Brute Statements are kickass.
If we accept brute statements as an acceptable form of explanation (as it seems we must), then the answer to Nozick’s bigger question “Why is there something rather than nothing?” has a very simple answer.
This leaves us with brute statements as the only acceptable form of explanation.
Even more important than this contradiction, there is the fact that Nozick does not eliminate brute facts with self-subsumption.

Individuals may be unaware of social facts and generally accept them.
Durkheim distinguishes social facts from psychological, biological, or economic facts by noting that these are social and rooted in group sentiments and values.
Normal social facts are the most widely distributed and useful social facts, assisting in the maintenance of society and social life.

The Rules of Sociological Method (1895)
Because the essential trait of social facts is their external coercive power, Durkheim first suggested that they could be recognized by the existence of some predetermined legal sanction or, in the case of moral and religious beliefs, by their reaction to those forms of individual belief and action which they perceived as threatening.
Social facts which are "pathological," by contrast, would be those encountered only in a minority of cases, and only for brief periods in the lifetime of the individual even where they occur.
Durkheim's "social fact" thus proved to be a conveniently elastic concept, covering the range from the most clearly delineated features of social structure (e.g., population size and distribution) to the most spontaneous currents of public opinion and enthusiasm.

Searle, John. The Construction of Social Reality. New York: Free Press, 1995. Pp. xiii+241
"The secret to understand the continued existence of institutional facts is simply that the individuals directly involved and a sufficient number of members of the relevant community must continue to recognize and accept the existence of such facts" (117).
Brute facts exist independently of human cognition and they are the paradigmatic component of nature, whereas institutional facts depend on human cognition for their existence, and are the paradigmatic component of social reality.
The distinction between institutional and social facts is that only the former is accompanied by the imposition of a function related to the transmission of power.

Additionally, if a finite personal being began at a particular point in time to exist, would this being not be required simply to accept the validity of its Reason as a brute fact of its existence?
Whether the ultimate brute fact is the universe in the sense of its composite energy/matter, or it is God, something simply has to have always existed.
This fact is usually not noticed because it is assumed that since God would be a very powerful personal being, this somehow implies he could have the power to create other finite personal beings.

The test is whether this court can conclude that the trier of fact could, acting reasonably, be convinced of the person's guilt by evidence it had a right to believe and accept as true.
If any possibility exists that the trier of fact could have drawn the appropriate inferences from the evidence adduced at trial to find the requisite guilt, an appellate court may not overturn the verdict even if it believes that the trier of fact should not have found guilt based on the evidence before it.
In reviewing evidence to challenge a finding of fact, this court must view the evidence in the light most favorable to the finding, and if more than one reasonable inference can be drawn from the evidence, the inference which supports the finding is th e one that we must adopt.

The fact that lightstructures may have existed in the Classical Greek period from 480 BC onwards is irrelevant if we accept that Homer was working in the Archaic period, and himself referring to a period 500 years earlier than that.
We are faced with the inevitable conclusion that around 1,300 BC, in the region of Troy and the Hellespont, the inhabitants of the region were using lightstructures as navigational aids.
Piraeus was inside the great fortified area of ancient Athens, and it is quite likely that the Athenians, relying heavily upon the use of sea power in their struggles for dominance of the Aegean and Black Sea areas, also used lightstructures for navigational purposes.

Revisionnism is then the way to progress in history, while the cult and defense of prefabricated interpretations is negationism, refusal to accept basic facts, avoiding this way the need of analysis and reflexion which would eventualy open way to a deconstruction of the desired ideology.
In fact in such a case, the negationnist must accept that the main fact exists, let's say Hutus have been killed, but he discuss the secondary fact to bring doubt on the main fact.
But the propaganda has exploited these burnings and killings, and then negationism was used to nrgate the facts, on the side of the germans, and negate the explanations on the side of the Allied forces.

For tortoises, at least on the evidence before us, have no rational compulsion to accept the conclusion of a valid argument just because they accept its premises.

Modern contractarians accept without question that most of the social and political institutions which interest them are not in fact the upshot of any contract or agreement among those whose lives they affect.
They are happy to repudiate ideas like the state of nature and the original contract as historical hypotheses, to regard them, in Robert Nozick's phrase, as 'fact-defective' characterizations, and to accept that the actual evolution of political society probably took an entirely different course from the one the contract image suggests.
The fact that both contractarians and anticontractarians fail to justify political obligation (understood as a self-assumed obligation) is nothing new; the anarchists have argued similarly for a long time.

HELLENISTIC INFLUENCES ON HASMONEAN ATTITUDES TOWARDS GRAVEN IMAGES AND SILVER SHEKELS OF TYRE - by Ronn Berrol
The fact that the Hasmoneans did not have to mint their own silver coinage allowed this precious silver to be used to maximize the economic power of the temple and the Priests.
While the more pious Jews would not be swayed to accept Melqart’s graven image on coins, stories such as Josephus’s might have allowed less religious Jews to more readily accept Melqart’s image on the shekel of Tyre.
We might hypothesize that the good relations with Tyre, the fact that the Tyrians had gained autonomy from the hated Seleucids, and the fact that the Tyrians did not try to import their own religious ideals, made the shekel of Tyre palatable to the Jews.

That is, Plato accepts, and indeed can only accept, the fact of akrasia because he comes to reject the simplicity of the soul in favor of a composite view.
Indeed, it seems more than compatible: if in fact every soul does everything it does on account of the good, then it seems that it fails to meet its end only because of a cognitive confusion, because it is, as Plato here says, perplexed.
That is, one could accept a bi- or tri-partite psychology without countenancing the possibility of akrasia.
