In the Roman senate opinions were expressed and votes passed by acclamation in such forms as Omnes, omnes, Aequum est, Justum est, andc.; and the praises of the emperor were celebrated in certain pre-arranged sentences, which seem to have been chanted by the whole body of senators.
A further ecclesiastical use of the word is in its application to set forms of praise or thanksgiving in church services, the stereotyped responses of the congregation.

 Acclamation
A long specimen of denunciatory acclamations which indeed might better be called imprecations, chanted in the Senate after the assassination of the Emperor Commodus (192), is preserved by Lampridius.
It should be added that these acclamations or some similar feature have been retained to this day in the Eastern coronation rituals and in a few of Western origin, amongst others in that of England.
Similar acclamations seem to have been familiar from very early times at the election of bishops, though it would probably be going much too far to represent them as regularly forming part of the ritual.

Trumpets - The Day of Acclamation
We’ve seen that it is more properly termed the Feast of Acclamation and that the acclamation was produced by the voices of the people, by the sons of Aaron with the silver trumpets and, over time, with the shofars.
We’ve seen examples showing that the acclamations were produced as a sign of joy, as the warning of war, and as the herald of the arrival of a new king.
The memorial of the acclamation pictured by the Day of Trumpets is the same, however.
