		Accra, population 1,970,400 (2005), is the capital of Ghana.

	Urban Cultivation in Accra
		Exotic vegetables and ornamental crops from Europe were purposely grown to feed the European settlers and to beautify their residences; the cultivation of vegetables was confined to the residences of European civil servants and merchants and the castles and forts which served as both the seat of government and the homes of the colonial administrators.
		Kufogbe notes that urban sprawl in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area is having a considerable impact on contiguous peri-urban areas, resulting in the conversion of agricultural land to residential uses, and suggests the urgent need to institute stringent measures to protect peri-urban agricultural land (Kufogbe (1996)).
		Accra generates between 700 and 800 tons of municipal solid waste daily, and out of this 540 tons is organic and can be recycled into agriculture in the form of compost (Asomani-Boateng (1999)) collecting and disposing of these wastes constitute a critical problem facing city authorities.

	History of Accra
		Accra was first settled at the end of the sixteenth century when the Ga people migrated there after leaving their previous settlement at Ayawso, ten miles north of Accra.
		During the slave trade, however, Accra took on more importance due to the nearby forts (many of which were owned and controlled by the Dutch), a prominence that lasted until the abolition of the slave trade in 1807.
		Until 1928, Accra was the main exporter of cocoa, and this was one of the main reasons for its rapid growth during the early twentieth century.

	ACCRA News
		ACCRA - The Council for Community and Economic Research conducted a research project that involved gathering budget data on state expenditures for economic development for FY 2005 and FY2006.
		The expenditure data can be used by policy makers for ideas on new policy recommendations, state officers and agencies for comparing or and evaluating existing budget allocations, and economic development professionals for highlighting the spending in a particular state.
		The 46th ACCRA Annual Conference was held in Charlotte, NC.

		THE BACKGROUND OF A.C.C.R.A. ACCRA was introduced February 12, 1997 in the House of Representatives by John Duncan of Tennessee and is designated H.R. 715 (105th Session of Congress).
		ACCRA was drafted by the three chief organizational sponsors of the bill: Security on Campus (based in Pennsylvania and Tennessee), the Student Press Law Center (based in Tennessee), and the Society of Professional Journalists.
		ACCRA would also require that all "incidents of" liquor law violations, drug violations, and weapons possessions be reported in lieu of "arrests" (the present language).
