AccuWeather's senior vice president, Michael Steinberg, said the verbatim use was a "placeholder" until AccuWeather forecasts could be inserted.
AccuWeather of State College, Pa., is "not claiming ownership of the [NWS] data--that would be absurd," Steinberg said.
AccuWeather's presentation or organization of NWS data on the Web site could be protected but not the data itself, said Roberta Bren, a lawyer with Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier and Newstadt, P.C., an Arlington, Va., firm.

Rick Santorum's mighty wind. - By Timothy Noah - Slate Magazine   (Site not responding. Last check: )
By contrast, AccuWeather (which happens to reside in Santorum's home state of Pennsylvania) would like you to know that it exists only because NWS has, over the past half-century, pursued a "non-competition" policy with the private sector, the idiocy of which apparently only occurred to NWS this past December, when it revoked that policy.
The other possible response to AccuWeather's whining is that it is true—that the NWS will squash AccuWeather like a bug by providing taxpayers with the weather information that they, ahem, already paid for, instead of leaving it to AccuWeather to charge taxpayers a second time for access to that information.
But if AccuWeather is in a desperate fight for its life merely because the NWS wants to release weather information in consumer-friendly form, that would seem to suggest that the NWS does its job at least as well as AccuWeather ever will.

Pollen Forecast , Provided By AccuWeather And AccuWeather.com - CBS News
The AccuWeather pollen forecast levels align with pollen levels that most local allergists report: low, moderate, high, and very high.
Since different pollens prompt different degrees of allergic reactions, AccuWeather cautions, it’s difficult to quantify how much the typical allergy sufferer might be affected by particular pollen levels.
For example, the level of pine pollen in the air might be "very high," but pine pollen isn't one of the most allergenic pollens, and so it probably wouldn’t cause symptoms as severe as the same levels of a more allergenic pollen would.

AccuWeather.com - Enhanced Infrared Satellite Images
AccuWeather receives satellite data from several satellites, via large satellite dishes and the Internet, and then converts this data into maps for AccuWeather.com.
An issue with this type of satellite is that it is difficult to see the small differences in the temperature of the clouds near the edge of the scale, and turning grey to white is sometimes not visible enough to the naked eye.
AccuWeather’s exclusive Enhanced Infrared Satellite takes the last several dozen levels of white and translates them to eye-catching colors so the strongest storms easily stand out.
