Ace combat has a wide variety of dialogue and commentary that is unique for each individual mission and makes for a different and unique experience every time you play.

Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies is a flight simulator that shows off the power of the PlayStation 2.
Ace Combat 04, however, shows a different side of war, which is that of an orphaned boy in a town that has been taken over by the enemy.
For better of for worse, this installment of the Ace Combat series is nearly identical to previous entries.

Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War Review for PS2 - Pro-G
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War marks the franchise's third PlayStation 2 outing, and once again combines slick presentation with exhilarating arcade-style dog fighting, but the formula doesn't seem as fresh as it once was - not that it's lost all of its charm.
Combat is as you'd expect from an Ace Combat game, with the focus centred squarely on action - mainly of the aerial dog fighting variety.
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War suffers slightly due to its similarities to previous games in the series, but the package is as slick as ever.

Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies is the crown jewel of Namco's flight combat series.
The audio in Ace Combat 04 is also very impressive, combining great aircraft and ammunition effects with some top-notch voice work and a varied soundtrack.
The great news about this game is that, despite the game's decidedly next-generation look, Ace Combat 04 has great play control that both series veterans and rookie pilots alike will be able to pick up with little practice.

Curmudgeon Gamer - Update: Ace Combat 04
Ace Combat 04 continues to impress me. At one level, I could criticize it for being little more than a very competent arcade-style air combat game with a sappy story crammed into the gaps between missions.
As I've said before, Ace Combat 04 is great, and I continue to feel that way.
My greatest fear now is that Ace Combat 04 will throw all of this good stuff out the window.

Ace Combat 4 is a suprise at the least, fulfilling every fantasy you can imagine.
Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies easily surpasses the detail in many PC flight simulators such as Falcon 4.0 just to give you an idea.
While Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies is one of the shortest flight simulations I have played it is definitely one of the most well developed and all out fun games on the Playstation 2 this year.

Curmudgeon Gamer - First Impressions: Ace Combat 04
Well, Namco's Ace Combat 04 (AC4) is an aberration: a white-knuckle action game that also has a surprisingly well-produced story to tie it together.
I'm enjoying the modestly forgiving combat missions, even if I'm still no flying ace, but even more importantly the story has drawn me in to the point of finishing missions just to see the next part of the narrative.
Combat is quite enjoyable, whether bombing land targets or dogfighting at higher altitudes.

Ace Combat 5 and all the other Ace Combat games are not simulations; they're flight combat games.
That's the dream of being the Ace of Aces, but if you call for help, you're already throwing in the towel; at least have it mean something instead of just having the wingmen not do anythingm especially when your commercial's main emphasis is on the squad.

So when an air combat sim finds its way onto a machine like the PS2 it needs to be easy to handle, quick to pick up and engrossing in the extreme.
Happily, Ace Combat 4 on the PlayStation 2 fulfils all these requirements, providing a gaming experience that's part simulator and part arcade, with a beautifully scripted back-story thrown over the top.
Flight combat games are quite a niche market, even on the next generation consoles, so it's nice to see Ace Combat 4 acting as ambassador for the genre.

IGN took Namco Bandai's Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception into the skies for a check-ride during TGS 2006, and based on their hands-on, they must have been smiling when they got back to the ground.
Combat in X should also be familiar to anyone who's played a flight sim or arcade flight shooter - air-to-air, air-to-ground, escort, and so forth - but if the past Ace Combat games are an indicator (and they are), expect to see a few surprises thrown into the mix.
This time, in their new update, they explain the tuning mode of Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception, as well as some new planes that you could get to play with.

More than a year has passed since Ace Combat 5, which wasn't all that different from 2002's Ace Combat 04, so Ace Combat Zero stands as a testament to the quality of the series' action as well as its presentation.
Even the story feels familiar, though for years now the Ace Combat games have distinguished themselves by combining flight combat with fairly intricate narratives, and this installment is no exception.
To their credit, the campaign missions in Ace Combat Zero generally avoid the types of missions you've probably come to dislike.
